WHY IS THE GAME CRASHING!!
The game i thought would be fixed and refined to a point where the game has no issues has more issues booting up with constant crashes more than even starfield and when it works it decides to crash when loading a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game file. FFS i loved the Fallout show made by Christopher nolans own brother, but common TODD let me play the game!!!

If the game is crashing constantly then it's an issue with your PC or the settings on your PC.

Fallout 4 does crash to desktop sometimes but not enough to be a major problem.

Do you have weapon debris setting turned on in FO4 settings? If so turn it off.

I don't know, it never crashed for me. You won't get help or tips by just complaining, you need to give us info, about your hardware, your OS... General tips apply, update all your drivers, directx, visual c++ redistributables etc, force a check on your installed files for any corruption, make sure your hardware can actually run this, not using any mods (believe it or not most mods are ♥♥♥♥ and cause issues).

4070ti super, I7 14700k, 32 GB ram and it should be enough, one guy on this forum said it was apparently not compatible with higher end pc's and many speculate to that it could be frame rate issue too or even V-sync that apparently is causing some issues but i dunno. if u guys have any suggestion i would be happy. OS is Windows 11, and everything is updatet to the extent of my knowleadge

i have windows 10 (64x), RTX 4060 Ti, i7-12700K, MSI B760 Plus MB, 64gb RAM, weapon debris off, tried all types of visual settings and no luck for me either. I just upgraded about a month ago and haven't had an issue with any game so far, in fact they are all running even better except for fallout. I am not sure if i just have to wait for the patch on the april 25 or not but i understand. it is very frustrating.

If you are familiar with things such as VSync, driver settings and editing .ini files, then know you can change the vsync setting manually in Fallout4Prefs.ini:

[Display]
iPresentInterval=0

The value controls vsync (0=off / 1=sync at refresh / 2=sync every 2. refresh).

If you have any questions either ask or straight up google for it. Many have the same problems and fixing these is quite easy once one knows how.

thanks you for adding a much more detailed explanation. Idk about the author here, but i tried all that and it didn't work for me. i guess i'll just hope the update fixes it. fingers crossed!

The game engine is the problem. It's ancient and has always been a problem. Fallout 3 is worse and I really love that game. Bethesda don't really fix things, but rely on the mod community to do it for them. You could head over to Nexus mods and check out the fixes they have, but it would be better to wait for the upcoming patch since that will probably just mess up any mods you install. It's just a few more days.

Turn off weapon debris setting.
Spiritos Apr 19, 2024 @ 6:31pm
Also auto save can cause issues.

i can't even get passed the initial loading screen and into the main menu. Weapon debris is off.

From what I can see, weapon debris is the issue. Disable it in the launcher settings and see if that helps.

Fallout 4 works perfectly fine for me on a RTX 3060ti, I7 11700kf. All ultra settings, except Godrays on Med. Weapon Debris off.

All I did ( from past experience with the game on a older system ) was make sure I had the refresh rate set to 60hz for the desktop in Windows 11 and the resolution matches what is set for the game. Playing Full Screen. 1440p.

Never messed with any .ini files.

It plays smooth and is very stable. I don't however, use any outside source mods or quick save.

do you just change your monitor refresh rate right on the desktop?

Yes. The resolution is important also. The game at this time, does not support some resolutions.
