However, there are some legitimate issues with people experiencing terrible crashing, locked frame rates, long load times, and ultra wide support issues. Sadly, most of them are being overshadowed by the mod related problems, which were totally foreseeable and avoidable.
I wonder how many people "playing" the game are constantly fiddling with their launchers trying to get the damn thing to work.
Oh man that's a reach lol!
Not many at all, relative to people actually playing I'm sure.
This update is is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trash, for modded and vanilla alike.
Turning off the weapon debris stops the crashing. And playing it at 60 and no higher ensures the game does not break from a higher FPS playing havoc on the physics engine.
Doing those two things above make the game playable.
However unless you use the mod to improve load times most will be stuck with long loading times when exiting interior locations. And the ultrawide resolutions have the UI not scaling. But the game is still playable. However in my opinion a new gen update should have fixed all of the above issues and more. It should have also improved textures, shadows and added things like DLSS and ray tracing. Actual new gen features.
Bethesda are lazy, incompetent and apologists only ensure their future products will be even worse because they know they can get away with being lazy. Be prepared for TES 6 to be worse then Starfield.
Also many probably turned off auto updates to preserve their mods.
I'm playing Vanilla and the update is fine. I don't really notice any difference. Why is it trash for me?
If you don't notice any difference then the update is not a good new gen update is it lol.
Load times aren't that long for me. Maybe 10-15 seconds?
The game is running just like it did before, update didnt change anything and kept the old bugs.
Many new players got jebaited by the series and the "update". They are experiencing the Fps speed thing, resolutions problems and broken loading times for the first time, thats why the trafic and amount of complaints is very high.
Thats stupidely high for an ancient game. Try this mod https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10283?tab=description
It still works
Most common things I have seen with people is that they do not even know where to look for help or where to find certain options on their PC. Just telling them to change driver settings can fall on deaf ears, because they have no idea what those settings are. Same with telling people to check their controlled folder access and they do not know what this is or where to find it. Most of these things are not major problems. People with PC skills can easily overcome these issues.
Then there are people with a messy Windows installation, outdated drivers, a faulty component, or hardware so new it still needs a BIOS update, etc.. These people are in the minority but with 100,000 people playing will you still find hundreds of them.
Here some info and pointers and the most common issues:

I was further in the game than I ever got, this last time. I was level 91 and I had my own army at the GNN HQ. I was REALLY getting into it. And the Update hit. So... Yeah. That hurt.
And let me just say this about the Fanboi thing. I have 8.4k hours into Fallout 4. Most of it has been played with mods because Vanilla sux. Also, I have never been able to get as far as I would like because the longer you play, the worse it gets until you're forced to quit and start completely over from scratch. So. I have not been a Fanboi. I have simply been trying all these hours, which incidentally, almost add up to a year of play time, to complete all the goals in the game. And I still have not accomplished my goals. Definitely not a Fanboi, simply a Player.
It's a good thing I'm already old and have accomplished my RL goals or I'd be depressed over all the wasted play time.
Edited: I've been posting screenshots in public as I play. Anyone who wants to see them can go look at them in my profile.
The game is broken for many players eg. player with powerfull pc's have extremly long loadingscreens (2-3 min to enter or leave any room), or even are not able to start the game at all and so on.
Older pc's have much less of these problems, so you have a lot of potential player worldwide.
I personally waited for this update only for simple bugfixes, but i get only new ones like playing the german version and have now a language mix of german and english.
