Works fine with the latest next-gen patch
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/42147
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/81630
So basically unless the mod you want has been abandoned by its author, it works.
I've updated my game last week, I use F4SE with the following plugins:
xSE PluginPreloader
Fallout 4 Script Extender
High FPS Physics Fix
Address Library - All in one
Buffout 4
Not entirely sure how dependent each mod in this list is on F4SE, but the game runs a charm, 60fps locked, no stuttering, minimal crashes (That are caused by another mod/mods while in W/S mode, that I'm still hunting down), super quick loading times (seconds!).
It works.
'Key mods' is relative, for me everything works fine.
people just mix things up..
f4se "plugins" needs to be updated everytime 'game' updates..
mods may or may not have to be updated, dependind on whether their modified content was changed during the nextgen..
many 'mods' should still function, but all plugins should be updated. it's the way how it works.. f4se is a memory patcher, it hooks hardcoded addresses.. and they all change with a game update.
Some mods are, sadly, just doomed to never work again, since Bethesda has entirely erased all other Fallout 4 versions of all platforms. It's Next Gen or never play Fallout 4 again.
