Don't buy shipments of steel.
I learned this the hard way. Just look for cans or any other item with steel.

i was wondering if the "shipment of adhesive" was actually worth it. Its says "25". So am I getting only 25 adhesive for 2900 caps? That cant be right, it must be 25 adhesive units or whatever with like 3-5 adhesive each. 2900 is a LOT of caps. I cant even get enough loot to the vendor at once to get enough credit to buy it. Gotta save up first a bit. Maybe someone can tell me that bought it.

25 stands for how many you're getting, not 25 shipments.

Nope a shipment is 1on1 pure unit of a given base ingredient... so yea, most do not pay off.
In general I only get the shipments I can't loot easily (cement is a favourite)

it really is just 25 adhesives.
shipments are expensive (though i pay much less than 2900).
at some point in the game cash isn't worth anything since there is nothing to buy.
it's just a way of getting rid of that money and getting what you need fast.

O.o

Salvage a car for 10-20 steel.
Salvage raider armor for steel.
Salvage guns (non-energy guns) for steel.

There is a lot of steel available.

Corvega plant for steel. (car parts)
Longneck Lokowski's for aluminum. (surgical trays)

I guess if you have the caps to spare shipments aren't to bad.

But then again steel is like the most abundant material in the commonwealth, so...

Shipments save you the weight of carrying it around so they serve a purpose.

as one of these guys, who are always overloaded with stuff/trash in these kind of games, i never even got close to running out of basic stuff like metal and therefore didn't even think about buying those shipments. hence i did not realize how badly expensive they are, especially compared to the minimalistic effort of collecting it yourself lol...

Yeah like Totoro said scraping non energy weapons can get you a lot of steel, I tend to use shipments for wood and copper used to do ceramic to but then I learned to love the mug. I mostly buy wood though because I like to keep certain trees around the property.

let's say you want to equip all your settlers with ballistic weave mk5 (now who would do such a silly thing? *cough*) you will have a hard time just collecting the components...

It has everything to do with what you want to do. That will dictate how quickly you burn through available resources, which determines their relative value to you.

I carry tons of crap and love to make stuff. In order to ensure that I always have enough of what I need, when I need it, I make a point of hoarding useful resources. Trading garbage I don't want for stuff I know I will use is a complete no brainer. My caps don't collect interest and there isn't much to do with a pile of money, so buying raw materials, ammo, etc. is exactly what I want to do.

Commerce hurts a lot less when you take advantage of things like Grape Mentats, Reginald's suit, etc. Then there are various merchant and scrounger perks that help too.

Besides, I sell so much stuff that no matter how much I build or repair, I'm still raking in the profits. I'd happily buy the shipments in your game too, if I could.
DaddyJokee Mar 10, 2016 @ 11:25am
It depends on your definition of "not worth it". I go out, fill up my inventory with crap, then scrap what I can, sell the rest and buy a shipment of wood from Moe. Along with the rank 2 of the cap collector perk, I spend 275 ( i think) on 100 wood, and that's basically just a few random loot from raiders and such.

As far as steel goes, what the mod said. Scrap raider armor and non energy weapons. Steel abound.

Yep, I buy the ballistic weave religiously from 3 sources. All my settlers wear military or minutemen fatigues 110/110 minimum ballistic/energy resistance. Then I give them sturdy combat armor... even the Synths. Nukes, missiles and plasma weapons all max moded.

Sleep tight my minions.
