Glowing Sea protection - hazmat suit or mysterious serum?
I am trying to decide which of these two radiation protections to use.
The hazmat suit gives 1000 radiation protection but no physical protection.
Pointless travelling there radiation free then being killed by a death claw.
I have one serum which apparently lasts for an hour but is this a real time or game time hour which is not very long?

At level 58, just got the main quest to go into the glowing sea, with over 500 stimpaks, along with hundreds of rad-x and radaway in stored in settlement(s) workshops.

I use Power Armor with lots of lead added to it. Got my rads down to <1 most the time.

You can also add lead lining to your regular armor, gaining a good amount of rad resist as well.
I thought you take no radiation damage with power armor. At least I don't see any rads pop up.

It does, but it is a seperate meter, to the right of your health meter. It looks way diffrent from what you see with no Power Armor on. Answered already.

But does it has an effect on your radiation poisoning? I never really noticed heavy poisoning. Though I must admit, I never really looked out for that.

Yes, it does. That is the read out in the armor telling you how much radiation you are exposed to. It has the same effect as when the rads are displayed when not wearing armor

It would seem that the safest bet would be for me to fast travel to Somerville settlement in my power armor then backtrack to the Glowing Sea. This would reduce the walking distance and save the core charge.

I'm level 30 with 20+ cores in my storage. If you lack cores, maybe you should explore and level a bit more, before going to the glowing lands.

Another good way to get rid of Radiation (though you have to open the console command and "cheat" to obtain these) is to add some "Refreshing Beverage" to your Inventory. It does "Radiation -1000", and "Health +500".

Well thats not a good way in my opinion
Hazmat Suit or Power Armour work well. You can get all the way from the "entrance" of the glowing sea to the back of it in regular power armour and with one rad-away. If you plan to sight-see you may want to grab some more rad-aways and a couple of rad-x and use those.
The Mysterious Serum works perfectly for me while exploring the Glowing Sea. Using the Mysterious Serum allows me to keep my regular armor equipped. My character does not use power armor at all. I also carry radaway with me too just incase I enter some areas with extreme levels of radiation.

When I do the glowing sea quest parts I wear hazmat an sneak my way around enemies.

When me an cait go radscorpion hunting or uncovering map locations we wear power armor. But, if you have a decent set of weapons an can take down most enemies before they touch you, then yer all set with jus hazmat.
Go to Diamond city, Fallon's Basement, and buy a hazmat suit from Becky. It's under three hundred caps.

But you can get free Hazmat suits...
Lol all you need is the "Mysterious Serum" - and maybe some Rad X

Anything else is overkill

This will make Jon's (MATN) Fallout 4 yolo run all too easy :(

You can craft them, no need to cheat.

Yep. Most opposition in the Glowing Sea is melee-focused, so if you're not, you have a substantial edge there. Just can't let radscorpions get the drop on you and tunnel right next to you, but in such a case most armor doesn't help against the poison damage, anyway.

Might also be noted that there's a number of locations in the Glowing Sea and rads magically don't accumulate when you fast travel in/out, so if you're in trouble you could always fast-travel back to a settlement w/ a clinic to remove your rads or buy more Rad-X/Rad-Away and then fast-travel back to a POI. The rads are mostly on the surface; IIRC, there's no location there where you can be deep inside a POI far from fast travel and still be heavily irradiated.
those xcells good for anything? I just keep mine and gloat like a gollum.

X-CELL is needed to raise CH-1 to CH-16 (best trade prices possible) at low levels (1-5).
