Is it worth playing now in 2023
loved 3 but never got round to buying this, got bored of gaming so Starfield will be the only game i buy at full price in years, wanted something to get me back into Bethesda before September and didn't want to reinstall Skyrim

Totally still worth playing and will get you familiar with a lot of the functionality in Starfield.

Yes. But add gameplay/interface/customization mods for a better experience.

Visuals are fine and don't really need any changes.

I prefer Fallout to Skyrim, but I prefer Lydia over all other Bethesda NPCs. F4 is fine, but it has issues on modern computers. Is there a Bethesda game that doesn't have issues?

If you did enjoy certain aspects of 3 and Skyrim you should have a good time with 4.

I genuinely hope that starfield is good but I also will likely never bother with it. Don't pay full price, man. Don't preorder, nothing is worth that. It'll be buggy and poor at release like a huge number of their other products have been.

But 4? It's fun, and has a very, very wide variety of mods to support needs anywhere between basic bug fixes, through texture overhauls, companions, pretty clothing and weird body sliders, settlement building, and guns guns guns.

Fallout 4 is the best in the series, the most playable, and RE-playable.
Best FPS I played in a decade or more. Despite all its faults and biases.

Definitely pick up the GOTY edition to make sure that you are getting the DLC.

Yeah, I'd say it's still worth playing. I think it's a fairly enjoyable game, even vanilla. But obviously, with mods is where this game truly shines. And it's probably the most stable Bethesda game to mod, and in general. You'll be perfectly fine on Windows 10, as far as OS goes.
The one mod you should use is the full dialogue mod. Then vanilla it up.
