My only must-haves are Place Everywhere (or Anywhere whatever it is called), Darker Nights, and Pip-boy Flashlight.

I also prefer 50% slower leveling and a mod that makes higher tier enemies appear at lower levels so you run into some skull icon enemies a lot more often. Some of them turn a lot of enemies into bullet sponges so try to avoid that.

I only play survival so console unlocked in survival is key as well.

Enhanced Blood and Cross-Crits is great. Player animated food and drink consumption is also pretty great, forget what that one is called, kind of Far Cryish.

That's about it. I like a few weapon mods as well but that's the bulk of the gameplay ones I enjoy not just flavor. Flavor is subjective.

I like settlement building, so Scrap Everything, place anywhere, and several QoL mods for settlements (arcade cabinets, snappy builds, greenhouses, some clean/variation buildings, a few others).

Also, I hate babysitting my settlements, so added the mod which allows minutemen to be more effective, get settlements with enough defense to actually defend themselves, and the mod to change the attack notification to a pop up so I don't miss it (and tell me if there's enough defense that they don't actually need help...).. I think it's We Are the Minutemen, or something like that (or perhaps it's successor...)

Place Everywhere and Scrap Everything first and foremost.

I use a couple small fixes for things like the weirdly large cola bottles in Nuka World, and removing radiation from water / areas.

Aside from those my must haves are all settlement based, and there are a lot of em.

Nuka World Shoppers Paradise

Virtually anything by Zorkaz

All the ChuckYuFarley works available

Homemaker and Settlement Objects Expanded

What's Your Name and Orphans of the Commonwealth

I could list hundreds, honestly.

Unofficial patch obviously. Everyone should be using it whether they mod or not.

Most of the rest are QoL stuff that covers obvious gameplay issues:
- https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/26286 - If you have issues in the boston area you NEED this. Just make sure its really low on your load order
- https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3680 - Keeps cars from exploding as easily whenever a firefight breaks out, because it can cause a lot of issues especially during quests. I use 3x.
- https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/19967 - Radiant quests for commonwealth stay in the commonwealth. No more having to go to far harbor for very early game stuff.
- https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3927 - Because "wild" variants of plantable food are useless and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid from a gameplay perspective.
- https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15642 - Because the way radscorpion tunneling is handled is both immersion breaking and makes no sense gameplay wise.
- https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14152 - Extremely useful if you want to explore without needing to be hyper-vigilant of your surroundings if you want to avoid an ambush.
- https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1XqyQbZxMEBJ9EvpkH3c0aS55CzrO6lBJ - "Attackers get off my buildzone" specifically. It fixes settlement attacks, spawning enemies outside of the build areas and spawning in enough of them to make them actually threatening. An absolute necessity for anyone who wants real settlement defense.
- https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9510 - I know its just the intro without the voiceover, but having this as the main menu presentation... just fits so much better. It REALLY sets the mood.

Kinda disagree since it can also introduce issues where there would be none. But you do you, eh. If something that the patch does can fix a vanilla issue - only if you HAVE the issue - then download it. This is true of *any* mod, including this one.

my must have mods are all p much QoL or fixes. Even if you hate modding games these will fix and make your game run a bit better and smoother

-unofficial fallout 4 patch = a must have as the base game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Hell even bethesda advertises it so they know what's good lol

-F4SE = makes other mods work better

-optimized vanilla textures

-render distance fix

-insignificant item remover

-god ray fix

-south boston fps fix

-load accelerator

-indoor fog remover

-place anywhere = for settlement building

-looted world = increases fps slightly and makes scavenging and hunting enemies more beneficial / useful as well as trading Gives the luck perk skills more use especially ammo and money perks

-♥♥♥♥ forgot the name but that one mod that makes it so that enemies spawn and attack settlements outside the settlement not inside

-no settlement attacks = just cut out the middle man for the top one lol

if survival:

-no finish moves removal mod = no more b.s. one shotting

-enable mods = for stuff like fast travel, sleep any bed, console commands (incase you get stuck lol), etc.

honestly cept for the obvious few most of these are really really good for making the game better and less b.s.

I think it depends on your rig and whether it is powerful enough to handle some mods. I do not have any mods like buffout or the unofficial patch, everything works mod wise that I have. I have had only 2 mods that did not work for me, could have been the load order or a conflict but they were superficial ones so I just ditched em rather than fiddle trying to get them to work.

If you look at the most popular mods, you basically need some of them without naming them. It mainly depends on what you are looking for or want in the game, building stuff-transfer settlements including better cleaning methods of settlements, weather control and greening, clothing and gear, weapons and guns, better ballistic weave, other companions or followers, affinity and user control, Special or perk and hack fixes, texture upgrades and fixing some of the issues that were in vanilla game.

Only play survival so the first two are a must for me

Survival Options
packs pouches clothes (backpacks)
No Health Crippled Pop Ups
No more workshop prompt
No sneak HUD indicator
Workshop Grinder
Vivid Fallout - All in One
PD Lower Weapon
Eli armour compendium
New Vegas service rifle
7.62 and 45-70 Ammo
Lever Action Reload Fix
Darker Nights
unofficial fallout 4 patch

I also disable the compass and crosshair as well.
Zappieroth Jul 31, 2023 @ 1:15pm
-Better Low Health
-Better Locational Damage
-Darker Nights
-Floating Health Bars
-Craftable Ammo x100 (I wanna shoot tons of things and I want it to be hard but scavenging for ammo is not my cup of tea.)
-Faster Respawns (Cus after 15 something hours everything will be dead)
-Weightless pretty much everything except for Gear and Weapons.

This and some other stuff basically turns the game into a looter shooter with fun exploration.
Kind of embracing what the game is strongest at anyway.
I ain't playing the game without any of this.

I completely agree. Although, I do use The Unofficial Skyrim Patch.

First, maybe, explain that comment? You might get better results.

I could get by with zero mods.

I definitely don't recommend the Unofficial patch, as by all accounts, Arthmoor doesn't deserve your support.

I have regular mods that I use... s.c.r.a.p... weightless junk, armorsmith, eli's armors, uco..

But I could play the game without. The bigger problem is maintaining interest after almost 10 years.

The truth is, most mods are meh.

My favorite mod is the one where you have the pass through connectors. It works with most walls.
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/20262
You put a regular connector on one side of the wall, and one of these puppies on the other side for power pass through. Beats setting up to posts on either side of a broken wall or window.

I want an amperage/wattage meter mod, so you can tell when you've used up most of your fusion reactor's capacity.
