How to find more lead?
I want to make more .308 ammo (to give to settlers, I find a lot of 308 weapons to give them) and I'm having a hard time finding lead. Have any tips on finding lead?

I feel this because even though I am reaching for the console this run, I am still a stubborn idiot "Noooo I wasted all my lead on that leaded armor I need to find more pencils fair and square!" *spawns in thirty coat guard hats to give people later*

Some casual google shows that two faction free vendors that usually sell 25 count lead shipments, are KLEO in goodneighbor, and Deb in bunker hill.

That said, even trash can carla sells .308 ammo itself. so you should easily be able to buy some to hand out even a mag worth for settler "give them some ammo, and then they never run out" logic.

The real pain for base game bullets is if you suddenly want a lot of spare assault rifle ammo. you can get fusion cores and plasma basically everywhere, but assault rifle ammo is a no show on so many vendors.

Aside from buying shipments, there are a bunch of weights, which you can scrap for lead, in Hardware Town. Beyond that, I keep checking in with general merchants because they sometimes sell (lead) weights. The wiki has some other places to raid. https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Lead_(Fallout_4)

assault rifle ammo as I recall theres a vendor all the way up in the north east just south of that settlement than has a decent amount of ammo. like 500 or so. which I hit up on my way to makhra fishpacking.

as people mentioned for .308 its probably easier to vendor in over crafting it.

that said if I wanted lead, you get the scrapper perk, find leaded armor and scrab it at an armor workbench in the field and it has a bit of lead in it.

no idea how much lead you NEED for .308 crafting, never tried. but if I was going for lead,

it most fallout games like the pitt ammo press or fallout new vegas you get lead from breaking down shotgun rounds to make ammo for other gun types. which you buy from vendors or whatever.

don't see the ability to break down shotgun rounds in fallout 4 but I don't have this DLC.

Not in vanilla but there is a mod that adds in the New Vegas way.

well then its up to the topic creator if he thinks thats cheating.

it does seem a more viable option for ammo crafting ingredients.

There is a Gym south of the pickman gallery with many weights in them.

theres also a gym inside the northern part of the glowing sea with a bunch of weights, too heavy IMO to be viable, I tihnk they are there to make leaded clothing for the glowing sea. but yeah.

Easiest way is to just buy it.

Set up a bunch of water purifiers in Santuary Hills that will produce a lot of purified water. Easy money for buying the resources you need instead of having to scavenge everything.

Pick up pencils and makeshift batteries while roaming the wasteland, in addition to the other stuff.

How many settlers are you trying to arm? a single handful of 20 or so .308 is enough for a large settlement.

You can manufacture it but you will need the components. Junk run, hoard, buy. Prydwen has lots of ammo for sale, so does Nuka World Merchant circle & Diamond City (3 vendors). Raid the Army Depots too and Gunners HQ. If you pace this circle out, you have almost unlimited ammo. I cheated with console for components, to eliminate that hassle.

Wait, pencils in this game actually contain lead?

And regarding weights, I recall I picked up some weight in a hardware store and they were steel not lead. But I'll check again somewhere else that ppl mentioned above. Thanks.

Goodneighbor and Bunker Hill vendors for lead. Farming weights can be an option but they are reaaally heavy so its hardly an option in survival unless you are already speccd into max carry weight or have a sentrybot following you around and even in other modes its honestly a chore. You should just buy the .308 ammo because settlers only really need one. If you yourself need a ton of them then speccing into scrounger will be better.

It's the General Atomics Galleria.
