The various structural pieces seem to conduct power around just fine, you just need the Vault conduit thingy to "radiate" power to things like lights, or to provide a connection point for things that need to be wired up directly (e.g. pumps, turrets, etc).
Thanks guys for all the help and hints!
Once I had the reactor in place, I built 4 Large Power Pylons leading to the waterpump. attached them to the reactor and then to the pump. The wire needs to attach to the top of the pump. There is no "switch" to turn it on, however there are 3 places on the pump you can get to, to "activate" it. Run across one of the large pipes attached to the pump, point to where the pipe enters the pump and you should get an activation request. The pump doesn't make any noise when started, so go into build mode and you should see that you have 100 water. I have read that there is a bug regarding the pump, so it may not work for you.
Once I had the pump going I build another Large Power Pylon on the other side of the reactor, between it and the tunnel. I used the small ceiling Power Conduits to run along the steel beams at the top of the tunnel, across the overhead pipes to the other side of the tunnel and, again on the steel beam to the enterance of the main room. I had placed a door and a wall in front of the tunnel, so on the tunnel side of the door I placed a wall Power Conduit and ran the wire to it. After that I no longer needed to run any wires. I placed a Vault Power Conduit (272) on the inside of the Atrium wall next to the door and it generated power...WITHOUT WIRES...to all other Vault Power Conduits. Each of these conduits seem to supply power to approximately an 8 to 10 floor square area. I have only used the Vault Power Conduits...again, without running any wires...and I have light everywhere in the main hall, hallways, rooms and shops.
Hope that helps.
BTW, I am, proudly, a 65 year old grandmother to a family of gamers, and I have over 2000 hours of playing Fallout 4. I know FO4 can be frustrating at times, but with a little patience and enginuity, you can accomplish anything! I do NOT use mods, although I must say, I have been tempted at times. You would think that over 200 years, these people would learn to use a broom, or a shovel, a bar of soap and a little deorderant!
It is nice to see I am not the only old person, let alone woman, who games. We got to keep these youngins in check. Retired in 2001 after 18 yrs driving tractor/trailers, and 7 yrs fighting forest fires for the U.S.Forestry Service.
At present I have more than 2,300 hours in FO4 with no mod's (I love the music, grew up listening to this stuff), 1,800 hours in Payday2, over 3,000 hours in Space Engineers. Been gaming since Dungeon & Dragons was new. Before they changed it to AD&D. Had the very first gaming console as well. Back in 1972, the Magnavox Odessey aka the "Brown Box". And I take a serious amount of time gaming, slow and steady wins the race. And in FO4, it helps with stealth ninja stuff. Love the building stuff alot.
Some of the folks in the Commonwealth don't look like they have any clue what taking a bath means. And those meat bags hanging all over the place. Raiders sleeping in beds over dead bodies, and what is it with everyone having their heads and hands cut off and chains thru their necks. LOL I'm not sure it was even that bad in the dark ages. LOL
