Final Solution To Private Beds
I now have a settlement where I am assured of a private bed. All the settlers in the settlement are robots. It's a starter project, so the population is low--only two right now.

They produce 12 food a day, just as human settlers would. Their personalities are turned off, so they don't talk all the time. Best of all they don't sleep. My bed is my own. Strangely the settlement is unhappy, only 46 last time I checked.

I wonder if they can be kidnapped????

If you were having problems with human settlers sleeping in your bed, the solution is to select them just like you do when assigning them to a task and assign them to a bed. Just do this for any settler you find in your bed. Eventually you'll have a bed to yourself.

Another thing I recently discovered is that if you do not remove all the furniture from Sanctuary your settlers will wonder into the houses to sit down. This makes it difficult for you to find them.

It's best to scrap all pre-existing chairs and sofas and put a few in your new construction. That way when they are not working or sleeping they won't wonder off but rather will find a seat and sit down where you can find them.

RE: that Happiness ... you still need beds BUILT, even if the settlers are all Robots and won't USE them. Quirk of the system.

Another option for a private bed is: no settlers at all (with a pop of 0, that settlement will never get attacked anyway). Red Rocket is prime for this, as it's a short jog over to Sanctuary for any buying/selling you need to do.

@GM Pax, yeah I noticed that about Graygarden. I had to put 6 beds there (for the robots) before the Happiness indicator would stop pointing down.

Can't you just place the bed behind a door with a lever and a switchboard and just cut energy to the wire when you are gone, making it inaccessible?

No idea if settlers claim beds they can't physically reach...

I'm not sure about that, but I know the "point them at their own bed" method works.

Yeah, but it gets a tad tedious if you have a big settlement and are just starting to implement it. :

Hunting down 20 settlers like the wild animals they are and assigning them might get a midge boring.
I built my own house in sanctuary. To access it I placed the fast travel inside on main floor. I also had a roof access, flying up the only way to be on the roof. I decorated my private space with chairs bed couches ,bathroom, kitchen and workshop. I brought only companions to my home.

Then one day after running a few oops upon my return, I found Marcy and a few others having a party in my house. Even though they broke in and drank my beer etc. not one could sleep in my bed. The reason the could'nt is because it's My Bed!.

I'm using an app called my bed. With said app you build a bed and choose any of the ones listed as my bed. Marcy and company will no longer steal your bed.
It's a great little mod a must have in my opinion.

@PonySlaystation

I know what you are saying and I thought so too. But in practice few will select your bed. And once they have selected another bed they won't switch to yours. So whenever you have someone in your bed just go into Settlement mode click on them and assign them to their own bed. I have 18 settlers in Sanctuary and only had to do it 2 or 3 times.

If you really think it is an issue then ring the bell get them together and assign them all at once.

First of all it doesn't matter how many locking dors you put up or how far off the ground you put your private room. Human settlers will get into it. Second, I tried assigning beds. But when you call them all together the settlers mill around and tend to just wander off if you don't deal with them very quickly. Makes it hard to individually assign them beds.

My robots never come up the stairs to where my bed is, even though nothing bars the way. They do their jobs without complaining, producing just as much food as a human. Another plus, they don't need to eat any of the produce. Best of all they're armed with laser rifles, flame throwers, and shock batons instead of lousy pipe guns, and they're all well armored.

I may start replacing the humans at my other settlements.
There's a mod that allows the bed you sleep in to be assigned to you, and no one ever sleeps in it. After sleeping it it once it'll have your name, like "Jason's Bed". If you sleep in another bed, that one will become your own bed, and the previous will become available to anyone.

Does anyone know what mod I'm talking about is? I have a lot of mods, and when I updated a lot of them I suddenly got that feature, so I have no idea which one does this. I'm pretty sure it's one of the mods that adds a bunch of settlement items

Can you rig a double barrel shotgun of knockback on the bed as a trap? cuz that will learn them NPC's

I have built extra beds in every settlement (like usually at least 6 extra), and if a settler happens to occupy my bed I tend to just pick up that bed, move it to another sheltered spot, and then build a new bed for myself in the original space.

Also, regarding the post above about setting up doors or otherwise sealing off a bed - that doesn't work. Settlers teleport to any space within a settlement, whether it is logically accessible or not.

.... which is why Red Rocket is my favorite "this is MY home, no-one else's" settlement.

No-one around to steal the bed, means, MY BED DAMMIT. :)

Actually, even pop 0 settlements can be attacked. I set up Murkwater as a honeypot settlement with 500 fresh water and 500 mutfruit in the workshop, and turrets on a switch so I can leave it undefended at will.

Of course, the two capture cages I have in the middle might have something to do with it.
