Walked into the National Guard Depot ...
With Level 13 I feel like I did a BIG misstake ... not only that the 3 Legendary Ghouls + the Glowing one costs me all of my Ammo + my medic equipment BUT the guard Bot is unbeatable ... what level is this ♥♥♥♥ made for?!

My weapons aren't causing any damage, this morning, after a download. Are yours ?

Yea you don't want to disturb the sentry bit when you're little
He will so hand you your ass.

I do enough dmg (even more than I remember last time) but the bot just kills me easily ...

glowing ones about level 20, don't use lasers on them they take like half damage from energy weapons.

With the bot, I suggest focusing on one leg (or the head) with VATS as your friend. If you knock one leg out it pretty much falls over (even the three legged sentry bot). Don't forget, you can always come back when you are better armed for this particular enemy (e.g., pulse mine/grenades).

Laser/Plasma weapons are good against the bot, but just using your highest damage weapon is your best bet. Dodge, run, hide, snipe, and bunny hop is all you can really do at Lvl 13 (and bring more ammo/food to heal).

As one strategy, there is a ramp that leads up to the top of the NG building (ramp is on the west side of the eastern building) that you can run up to hide/snipe. I think I spent most of my battle playing hide and seek around the building just south of where the robot popped out. It seemed to have trouble navigating up/down the hill there.

Once the bot missles fire, you know to RUN and reposition. Good luck and good hunting! :Perseverance:

Do not go out the back door which opens with the terminal, walk back to the front door where you entered. The sentry bot will not be activated.

If you have the caps, buy Chao's Revenge from Trudy. It is a melee weapon but it does good damage plus 50% extra damage against robots. Make sure you have a critical for VATS, that way it works great against sentry bots and assaultrons (and other robots of course). Use chems to get some extra protection because they explode.

That National Guard depot is in an area you are too low-level for; it's smack dab in the middle of a 25+ zone. Everythign there is two times your level. EVERYTHING.

On this map:

... you need to stay in either of the BLUE areas, until you're at least level 15 or 16. Stay out of the lighter-green area until you're 20, the yellow areas (like around that National Guard Training Yard) need to wait for 25, and so on.

I would like to shoot its legs and dodge BUT its a tank type robot without legs :D + it shoots with a auto-gun so no dodging as well ... it looks like the ground doesnt like me >.< xD

Sentry bots DO have legs. Those aren't tank treads you're seeing,t hose are the big meaty "off-road" wheels at the ends of it's front two legs (Sentry Bots have three, one in the back and two up front).

It's too bad you went there so soon, there are 2 Power Armor suits there that scale all the way to X-01. One is in the building by the sentry bot and the other is in a locked cage in the blue containers behind the sentry bot building.

@Nimex,
Yes the bot mini-gun is brutal. You _can't_ have a fair fight with the sentry bot at lvl 13.
There is a 'Fat Man' near Sanctuary that might help even the odds - perhaps slight overkill, but hey, we're not being fair here :). I will let you discover this on your own. :KneelingBow:

@GM Pax,
Interesting map. Even in the 'low level' area you can find tough beasties. I had a Death Claw spawn just west of Santuary once. I was wandering along expecting to kill the usual solitary feral dog ... and boy was I surprised :steamfacepalm:

I also can't blame Nimex for wandering. I think I was getting lost in Boston Common at Lvl 13 all young and innocent and 'way over my head'. I blame Preston. :)

I just ran up to the roof and took pot shots at him...threw a few gernades, tossed a few mines off the roof.
Took awhile and a lot of ammo ( and healing ), but it was doable.
Was actually exciting and fun.
I was at about the same level 13 or 14.

I went the recently not much higher level than you are, though I avoided waking up the sentry bot (by not going into that building, not some other sneaky way). For the ghouls, quite simply, grenades are your friends. They do significantly more damage than pretty much any other weapon you may have at that point.
ghpstage Jun 16, 2016 @ 3:50pm
You'd be surprised at just what you can kill at low levels with the right weapons, perks and/or plan.
Those legendary ghouls for example, if they are reavers or lower will die to one point blank crit to the head from a calibrated sawn off double barrel. Without any perks whatsoever....
The glowing one can be dipsosed of quite comfortably using the mines you find outside and mixing in grenades/sniping/whatever really. You just have to avoid rushing and take care against everything in there as a lot of the ghouls are very dangerous.

The sentry bot is a real obstacle however, its one of few enemies in this game that is genuinely best left alone at this kind of level. But I doubt it would be that difficult with the penetrator perk and a weapon with a solid crit, like a powerful calibrated hunting rifle, or a photon agitated laser.
I also seem to remember being able to cheese it through the door its locked behind even withotu that perk.

Note, I haven't actually tried penetrator.
I do seem to remember being able to cheese that sentry bot through the door its locked behind without penetrator.

If you can sucessfully run around like a headless chicken for a time, the bot does shut down to cool off for a few seconds, exposing the fusion cores on its back. The trick is to be in a position to take advantage of that.
