Other than that I usually play Survival and just RP as a real scavenger. Do this if you haven't and thank me later.
From a games design perspective, it has a lot of tricks that add atmosphere e.g. in combat the combatants on your side shout out with comments like "take cover!". Really simple stuff but gives you a feeling that your allies have your back.

The GOG version seems to be nearly bug-free in my experience. There is a patch and an reshade on the web somewhere.
The publisher was Bethesda. No-one was interested in the sequels which was a real shame. But that's Sales&Marketing for you - it's the same everywhere.
