Vortex vs Mod Organiser 2
I'm about to start a new FO4 playthrough. Which mod manager is the best to use?

I use MO2 but from what i gather nothings wrong with either of them and I think Vortex is more beginner friendly

Then what made you pick MO2?
Personally alot of people tend to use Vortex b/c it's more user friendly and easier to manage.

Any missing files i tend to just manually install them.

i jumped onto MO2 because NMM the precursor to Vortex was a pile of junk and I had issues with it. At the time the only other major option was MO2 and by by the time vortex came out id gotten used to MO2 and didnt see the point switching to another manager when the one i was using was fine.

Vortex is so far removed from NMM.....it's SO much better - words can't describe. I tried MO2 for about a week, and had all kinds of problems with it....not understanding it, because the learning curve is quite daunting, in my opinion. Vortex was SO much more user-friendly. I grasped it easily in a few hours. Been using it flawlessly for a couple of years now.

Vortex or MO2 really comes down to preference. Someone has mentioned Vortex more user friendly than MO2. I disagree with that, because managing archives and load order (Vortex does not allow you to create changes to latter) is far easier.

However, for most players Vortex really is easier to handle and more user friendly to use.

At their current stages, both mod managers are good ones and well supported by community. Pick either one and you will get adequate support for it.

Most forum regulars are closely involved with MO2 development and testing, so getting help for that in here is easier.

However, Vortex is now the official mod manager for Nexus and has developed far from it's growing pains. You will get plenty enough support for that as well.

We have nudge other testers and developers for either manager, if you encounter any problems with it.
my vote for MO2:lunar2019coolpig:

Vortex. It's fully supported and frequently updated and works seamlessly with Nexus.

Whether MO2 or Vortex is better depends a lot on you.

MO2 if you have a good understanding of the technical aspects of how the game engine and mods work and want close control over things. Otherwise try Vortex.
why not both
and
download and install loose files manually if you can't decide on one

I disagree with Ilja here and that is indeed a rare thing. Vortex has advanced functions that let you do what Ilja says you cannot. You can manage archives and load order manually. But by experience Vortex just takes care of it for you.

I had one experience where two mods clashed and i had to sort it out the hard way, but that was not very hard to do once i had read the homepage info on both mods.

Vortex is so easy it makes perfect sense for those that like plug n' play.

My vote goes to Vortex.

I use mod organizer 2 solely because its easier to tell how everything is organized in the UI. Its less colorful than vortex, but the way its sorted makes it fairly easy to read. Though sorting the mods manually can be a bit of a pain.

Also the way MO2 handles the files makes it (theoretically) immune to data corruption.

Also I can report that using the exact same mods and load order between all three major organizers that MO2 ended up having the best performance in game.

vortex if your not using a lot of mods, mod organizer if your using a lot of mods. 20 mods? Vortex is fine, easy. 100 mods? I'd go with mod organizer.

I use MO2. My experience was about the same as Von Faustian's. I had a new Bethesda game, didn't want to continue with NMM, and Vortex was still a brand new product not really ready for general release. Since then, while I am quite happy with MO2 I've had a lot of conversations about Vortex with knowledgeable people who tell me all the things it is capable of--and it is getting better all the time, and can be used with games other than BGS. You aren't going to go wrong using either of them.

I would question this. I have had at one time, more than 100 mods. Vortex handled it no problem. I have acquaintances that use over 200+ mods with Vortex and no issues at all. Whether 20 mods or over 200 mods, Vortex works just fine.
