Revolver based build?
I kinda want to make a character build focused around using revolvers. I've never done that before though. I'm not sure what to compliment the build with, however. I never main revolvers because I always have a problem with damage numbers not being high enough late-game.

Considering also putting in some melee with it, too. Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

Kellogg's pistol with all the mods on it is pretty fearsome. Until you find a Two Shot .44.

Cool idea for a build. Good luck.

Everythining around sneak damage and silencer. There are very nice optional perks and gear for support it to nice values.

Good idea but - do .44 suppressors exist? Not sure I've ever run across one in the game.

You want this:

Unless very hard (survival is fine) high levels with too beefy enemies and with all perks to sneak (Ace opeartor, Sandman, Ninja... Optional is extra in VATS) it will carry you through game just fine and outperrform Kellrog/44

There are other alternatives too (especially with soem legendary drop) - like plasma, alien blaster, .50...

Magnum is more straightforward but sneak build will be winner.

This is my vigilante build.
The gameplay is centered around disarming opponents by shooting the guns out of their hand and following up with an unarmed beating
You will also need a pair of those wrist braces for dealing with the RSI. :-)

Honestly my main problem with vanilla revolvers is not the damage, but the fire rate. The 44 pistol really should be able to fire a bit faster when I pull the trigger the second time. Fortunately, mods can fix anything, as there is one that specifically changes that, and only that.

like any weapon, the right legendary mods make the gun. I find revolvers very good in the game, even on non-combat builds. They do great damage for a pistol. My current game on my non-combat character i use powerful revolvers to get in close and head shoot supermutant warlords. I usually switch up weapons to break the boredom so now its revolvers to the face, and when my aps are used up ill bring out an automatic and blast until aps are back up then back to the revolver to the face.

It should work. They may not be as strong as some, but not important. Heavy weapons are stronger than rifles, but I never use heavy weapons and yet I manage to finish the game :-)
Just max out on pistol perks which is nice for the extra benefits beyond just damage. Ie, snipe with a pistol, and use the same pistol for close up work. Because they're lighter you can carry more, and more bullets too (esp in survival). And carry around extra pistol types for the situation. Ie, a scattered plasma pistol for up close high damage. Per-shot the guns don't seem to do as much but you can shoot much faster. Get all the luck perks that give you crits too.

These are some great comments, thanks!

How do you guys normally level up?

If you go straight combat, and ignore the crafting and settlement related perks you could stick to a pretty low level. 30s-40s. I usually go for everything though. Lockpicking/Hacker/Science/Local Leader/Gun Nut/Armorer/etc, and that requires me to dump points into attributes as well, which really REALLY inflates my level to insane numbers.

I kind of wish they had a proficiency system to assist with earning non-combat related perks instead of dumping level points into it.

Even for a stealth build does the .44 work while not having a silencer. Just sneak up, do a headshot and then disappear again. Targets will come searching, but as long as one moves around and keeps targets guessing is the lack of a silencer not that important.

With a 4.7x sneak bonus does a .44 do a lot of damage. A melee weapon can get up to 12x sneak bonus and I use an Irradiated Ripper currently at level 133. I sometimes kill 2-3 targets in a swift movement and cut them down. This works especially well against Super Mutants as long as it is not in bright day light. Melee, and guns without silencer, still work nicely. Just have to run sometimes and hide until everything cools off when I have gotten too greedy and careless. It is too much fun to literally rip Super Mutants into bits and pieces.

I didn't find Deliverer very effective against supermutants, even with Gunslinger maxxed. too much damage resistance I think. I guess maxxing Ninja might help.

You build a bit different if you want to stay pure to Revolvers and exclude the other Pistols. That was how i read your initial post. No Plasma Pistols, no Laser Pistols, Sniper Pistols.

You will benefit much from high Agility and also very High Luck. You need to go for as much criticals as you can, but this is rather easy to do.

Perception will also be useful. PER 9, Penetrator and PER 10, Consentrated Fire are rock solid perks, but you can get those lategame.

If you allow all pistols Deliverer is the most broken gun in the game. With Max Agility you can get of so many shots that it feels like endless shooting. Combined with all the Critical perks from Luck, you will enable endless cycles of restoring your Action Points and rebuilding your Crit meter (5 max?)

But you will be a success even without Deliverer. There are several very strong Revolvers that will decimate your enemies. Go get the Gainer first. Rock solid gun.

I ended up finding a Legendary .44 Revolver with the Dead Eye on it in one game, slowing time when aiming, and it was my preferred Gun for a really long time.

Once you're over level 100 super mutants are just damage sponges.

Anyone been over 200, before? Haha. Never got that high. Usually 100-130 range by end of playthrough.

They fall easily to radiation damage. However, at level 100+ should one have found at least one powerful weapon to do the trick.

So have I found this one, but do not actually ever use it. It is not fun for me without having some effort and to plan an approach and to do a sneaky melee attack.
