Dogmeat always underfoot
For maintaining our sanity, could someone please come up with a mod to get Dogmeat to heel, follow, or otherwise stay out of our way so we can move forward unimpeded? Doorways are the worst and you have to jump over him sometimes in order to proceed. It's a habit frustrating enough to perhaps leave him behind even though he can be an asset.

Have you ever owned a dog? Especially a German Shepherd. This is exactly how a real dog acts.

Seriously though - get Amazing Follower Tweaks and use it to tell Dogmeat to a) stay behind you (his normal AI is to move to the cursor) and b) stay a long way behind you.

Or get Out of My way - which allows you to push all companions (and everyone else) out of your way.

I agree. I always send him to Sanctuary and leave him there.

You are simply moving too slowly or failing to understand his pathing issues. Of which there are many and are common with all the compainions of all the Fallouts. When exploring stay ahead of him or circle to a door as you do a roo/space, so he falls in behind you.

That dog is the best companion bar none.

My problem with him is the whining. Too much like a real dog.

it sets companions right.

That worthless mutt is the worst companion of all. He is only usable if your play style is to always let him draw a crowd then grenade or nuke them all. Killing dogmeat in the process. But he magically comes back to life. Facepalm.

You didnt Perk Up right then. Lone Wanderer 3 + Attack Dog 3, and Inspirational 2. Makes DogMeat vastly more effective than other companions. With all DLC you can go even better at 4 + 4 + 2.

What are you talking about?
It's like, completely accurate. My dog does that to me in real life all the time, and it's infurriating.
I love dogmeat.

How is 'lone wanderer' of any use in conjunction with the other two perks?

The Lone Wanderer perk is not affected by having Dogmeat as a companion, so you can keep Dogmeat around while still getting the benefits of the perk

Inspirational works on any companion. Dogmeat can still only ever melee. Which means he gets into a crossfire all the time. He cannot do anything but growl at an enemy above you. Like on a balcony. A humanoid companion with good armor and a good sniper type gun will do much better. I usually give them a fully upgraded .45 combat rifle when I don't use the .45 ammo anymore. Dogmeat can never carry as much as the others. A real companion is still much better than Lone Wanderer. Finally, which difficulty you play on makes a big difference. Anything/everything is effective, even OP, on normal.

I love using Dogmeat early, but agree he can be a pain due to pathing. A problem with all of the companions really. For that reason, I forego the companion perks altogether and just go for the Lone Wanderer perk instead. Problem solved. No more getting spotted by the enemy because Dogmeat saw a squirrel.
