Know of any to get started?

Thank you!..>>Kevin
But all the flesh 'n blood companions, except Dogmeat, will crouch and sneak when you do. If you dont want your companion to start shooting from afar, equip them with a meele weapon.
And all your flesh 'n blood companions can carry everything. A million tons of stuff without modding or console or cheats, due to what i call the "grab that" glitch.
You enter an area, like Super Duper Mart in Lexington. Find yourself a container close to the exit/entrance. Dump all your excess stuff in said container. Kill all enemies in location then loot everything and put in same said container. Now you can command your companion to loot said continer, and they will first fill their inventory but you can continue to make them loot the container and they will continue until it is empty.
They will pick up all of one item at a time, so therefore it's best to put everything into a container first.
Let's say you have a low Charisma build without supply lines, and need that 1000 concrete you have stored in Sanctuary at Red Rocket. Thats 3000 weight of concrete. Put every concrete in a container and make your companion loot it, they will pick up 150 weight of it. Make em loot again and they will pick up ALL of it. Same for guns, armors etc.
It is somewhat boring if there is a lot of items, as you must order them to loot once for each item group, but your companion can on Survival carry all your Mini Nukes, Rockets and Junk if you want them to. Unlimited capacity.
Dogmeat is coded to take small light items into inventory, and most others with weight he carries in his mouth and drops on the ground in front of you. So he will loot stuff like Glowing Mushroms, Stimpacks etc, but he cannot empty containers after he is full so Grab That doesnt work the same on him.
That's a pretty genius abuse of a inventory space glitch. I'll probably try that.
But muling wasn't where my own problem stemmed from. I'd mostly solo'd with the lone ranger perk but grew bored after a few days of playtime and longed for a companion to follow me around. I played about 10 days with Dogmeat at first but Dogmeat doesn't add as much flavor as other companions.
I don't mind too much that robots don't sneak. But being they'll follow me close enough that they can ride on my shoulders sometimes it draws enemies directly to me when they intend to close in on the robot. If they followed at a distance I could easily use them as a distraction (for example: there are times I used them as the calvary by having them charge in while I snipe)
I just figured I might have missed a follow-distance command that was in the previous games.
I appreciate it, but I'm in survival.
I realize that this is an old post but... WHY answer if you DON"T KNOW!!!! How irritating!
Congratulations! Your answer is being served by google as the correct answer, just search "fo4 command to change follower distance" and verbatim it will read this wrong answer. Unreal on both the part of forum discussion and google, there is no fix I can find other than mods. Companion Command and Move (Get Out the Way) are the two mods I recommend, for stealth builds you'll need Companion Stealth Distance Fix (No Free Hugs) to keep the distance from resetting in sneak mode.
The NV features of changing aggro and follow distance were cut content and are restored in the Companion Command mod.
