Fallout 4 - Automatron/Robot stuck between settlements?
I've built a handful of Automatrons during my endeavours under the sky of the Commonwealth. One robot i built i sent to Hangman's Alley, but it never arrived. After some googling i read somewhere that a robot might be stuck in a tunnel, and yes, i actually found one of my robots stuck in a tunnel near Hangman's Alley. I managed to get the robot out of there and decided to change the route the robot was going.

In my question to you guys & girls, eager to solve my most recent lost robot is the following. I was building my robot on Spectacle Island and to prevent the robot from getting stuck on its way, i first sent "him" to Sanctuary Hills hoping that "he" should reach that settlement, but he did not. So, i was waiting for about three days in Sanctuary but no robot arrived. I am somewhat sure this fella is stuck somewhere but i can't find him. I've searched some tunnels in the Commonwealth but no luck. I should also note that i'm aware that the robot may have been killed.

If you have experienced the same as i do, with vanished robots, please let me and the Fallout 4 community know if you have lost robots. If you are lucky to have found a lost robot or a stuck one, please share your information and thoughts in our community. This way we may help others who have lost their beloved Automatrons in the creepy Commonwealth, full of monstrosities.

At the time of writing, i will reluctantly admit that the robot is gone and i will build a new one. Maybe i will build a simple Automatron and send it to different settlements and test if it manages to reach the preferred settlement. If it don't reach it, i will note it and share this info here. Another way to literallly avoid vanished robots is to build a Robot Workbench at a settlement where you plan to place your robot temporarily.

Happy construction - happy hunting!

P.S. Can i enter a code or something in the console command line?

If you send a robot to another settlement, it may take a few days to get there. The only way to garuntee it shows up (and this doesn't always work) is to do a cell reset.

That's because robots you build don't start out with the Protected status that stops anyone other than you from killing an NPC. But they do gain the Essential status while being your companion, then switch to being Protected when you dismiss them from being a companion and send them to a settlement. So having them join you as a travelling companion and immediately dismissing them can help to protect them.

This will mainly be useful if you know their reference ID in advance (which you can see by clicking on a robot while the console is open). For robots you build, you can't predict the ID since the game just assigns them an available one when they're created; you have to check for it ahead of time.

But with that ID you can use console commands like getdistance or moveto to work out how far away they are from something (like yourself, the player), move to their current location, or move them to yours.

If you really want a robot at a settlement, take it as a companion, then go to the settlement, then release it and set that as its home.

That does hit two birds with one stone by both moving them and giving them the Protected status afterwards, it just means you have to run back and forth escorting your robots.

If you happen to have a save where you have the robot you can load that temporarily and get the ID number, then go back to your current save. Works for lost power armor as well.

Spectacle Island itself may your problem. I had this happen a few times, you will probably find your robots are bugging out in the water between where the speaker shack is on the island and the mainland shore line near a few sunken ships underwater. I found about three I was waiting on just bouncing up and down there. It seems the trade path to Spectacle island just really sucks.

They will show up. Eventually. It will take a while though.
