Intimidation and Recruit?
So I Found this out myself a few weeks ago and have been waiting to try it again. I have a Character that can pacify people and Tried it out on a "Wild" Settler, the kind you find fighting robots or captured by super mutants, and found that you can pacify them, walk them to a settlement and enter settlement building mode.
With your cursor over the pacified settler you can recruit them into your settlements.

Using R To move them or E to assign them to something. I don't believe I have Mod that makes me do this and even so my unmodded game is allowing me to do this. Kinda a quick way to get more settlers if your trying to get more.

I haven't found any info on this anywhere here or on Google search. Wondering if anyone else knew about this?

I wish I could remember which one. I'll have to check on that when I get back to my Tower This weekend.

Yeah, I think if Rylee is still alive after the cannery quest then Rylee is moved to the random encounter table. This happens with a bunch of NPCs. Like Skinny Malone and Darla can be found as random encounters and then Jack and Edward (who has a fiber optics turn in) can be found wandering the Commonwealth.

If Rylee was hired before completing the cannery quest she will disappear from your settlement. I think you can bring her back via console commands though.

Actually, I thought that was a bug that maybe would or would not present itself in the game. Admittedly, I have never done that quest, and I get her in all my games. So far, she has never left my settlement I sent her to.

But maybe it has not been long enough yet, not sure.

Of course it did not happen in any of your games, you never completed the quest.

It is an unfinished/broken script. The developers obviously did not give a @#$% what happened to her after completing the quest. Dr. Sun in Diamond City Market has the same broken/unfinished script if you do the detective files case.

Sorry, but did I misunderstand you ? I thought you said that if she was hired before completing the quest, she would disappear from the settlement you send her to.

And I have never completed that quest, and she has never left my settlement.

Maybe I misunderstood that you meant if she is hired before you even start that quest AND complete it ? Sorry, just asking.

If Rylee has left the Longneck Lukowski's Cannery, and the Automatron (add-on) has been installed, then Rylee may become permanently disabled, and you will be unable to find her for recruitment.
Using prid 0003eff3, disable, enable, and moveto player resolves the problem.
As of patch 1.08 on the PS4 and PC, it is possible that she will not offer in dialogue the option to be recruited if one has already completed Mystery Meat and meets her later. The dialogue option of "People getting sick?" may remain even after it has been discussed.
However, it is possible to use the console to move her to settlement and make her the players lvl 4 merchant, but the "People getting sick?" will remain. (If one uses the console to teleport to her, the player will find themself in the sandbox)
When trying to recruit her she may not go to settlement and also may continue to offer the dialogue choice of being recruited and each time you offer the job in the settlement, the settlement personnel number may rise by one each time you offer.
If she is successfully recruited and moved to a settlement, she may permanently disappear after a while, ending up in an inaccessible test cell. In her absence, she will still count towards the settlement's population, and remain allocated to any assigned role.
She can be returned using console commands. Use the prid 0003eff3 command to select Rylee, then use the function disable, followed by enable, then moveto player.
Hope any of these helps.

Yea, SnowGodz, the first paragraph is pretty much how it always happens in my game.

I follow her out, right after her rant at the cannery, and ask her to join my settlement. Yes, the script and dialogue is always bugged and she does not really confirm the request, but she always goes to the settlement I send her to, and she does not leave.

"Get your ass moving. I am taking you to a place where you can live your life free of need and secure. Or I will put a cap in your ass!"....yeah I like that. Better than using the console.
I'm not sure you can really trust what they say:

This is a pretty good test, in my opinion. Provisioners are sure to get attacked quiet often, unless there is an extremely rare case where the one you have has not been, and I highly doubt that.

So I am more interested to try this now myself. I want to thank you for posting this. Even if there is some issue with it working in my game, I appreciate the information you have given us here.

Sure thing, Just thought I post this here. I haven't found anything out anywhere else, not even the wiki says anything. I'd like to do more testing this weekend so I may update this topic.

Nah, I didn't follow her out or talk to her at all. I found out that she does leave after you complete the quest and thought that sucked. I did hold her up and sent her to a settlement. Just gotta see if she sticks to that place. Now I want to find her on my first character and try that out.

I do wonder if this works on Tina from Vault 81, and other Legendary NPCs. Maybe you can "force" them to join without needing to have the requirements to have them in your Settlement thru conversation early on in game.

Not unless they're a companion or are tied to an important quest.
MFW I realize I'm retarded for not noticing what page I was on LMFAO

Yea, sorry, as later in the thread I admitted to using the wrong terminology there as others also helped me see my mistake. "Protected" was the correct terminology. It was just a mistake on my part. Thanks.

EDIT..Just saw your edit. No worries, friend. Thanks so much.

YOU HAVE TO COMPLETE THE CANNERY QUEST FOR THE BUG TO HAPPEN WHERE SHE DISAPPEARS.

You said yourself you NEVER completed the quest so of course it NEVER happened in your game.

Now can you quit arguing how it works fine because it never happens in your game.

Tina's script is broken @#$% period. I got her to my settlement a few times with console command and her script would have her run out of the settlement to somewhere else. I think someone made a mod to fix her. Never got around to trying it because scripts to fix broken NPCs like Tina and Goodfeels never quite work right or have conflicts.

That is, if some enemy attacks them, do they die, or just get knocked down only to recover after a minute or two?

Well, thank you, but I should specify non-provisioners, actually. Even robots get the Protected status when assigned as provisioners, while they don't get it when assigned to other settlement tasks. I should have thought of that when asking.

It's still a CRT monitor as well. I have little or no trouble with different frame rates, but even the slightest bit of angular sheen from a flatscreen monitor can annoy me, so I'm using a monitor that has none.

No one was "arguing" about anything. I was nothing but polite and respectful to you, and I was simply "asking" about this issue. That's clear from my posts.

You originally said this :

And I was simply saying that I have never completed that quest, and she has never left my settlements. And I kindly asked if I misunderstood what you were saying.

Admittedly, this is not really on topic with the OP's thread, and I don't want to cause any disruption here, but I was just replying to what people were currently talking about at that time.

If you or others would prefer to discuss this somewhere else, that would be fine too. I am just interested to find out how I am making a mistake in understanding this, if i am. That's all, friend. Thanks.
