I go with combat rifle and combat shotgun when I get them
I seldom use any other weapon
The minigun is completely useless to me. I sell it for caps and ditto the 1200 + rounds of ammo it comes with. You can buy a lot of good stuff early in the game for that kind of money. The shotgun will last me till I find my first combat shotgun around level 10. The max capacity .38 pipegun will last me till I find my first combat rifle around level 15. And the pipe sniper rifle--upgunned to .50calibre, silenced can last me to level 25 or better.
with rank 1 Chemist you can craft Psychobuff (+3 strength), Pyscho Jet (+damage/+damage resist), Dirty Wastelanders (+3 strength), and refreshing beverages (removes rads and addiction)
you can stack 1 food, 1 drink/jet, and 1 chem...there are better things out there but I dont wanna put too many spoilers in this...
you'll have to get a board from super mutants, so its best to grab the laser musket from concord and save it. The "easiest" mutants to kill are the ones outside diamond city..the guard help you fight and you can grab explosives..they'll kill you with 1-2 hits but its high risk high reward...if need be grab piper first because dogmeat will stand there and stare at you for the whole fight
but yeah...I'd put my first talent in Blitz, then Chemist, and lastly strength and the melee perks. I normally save whiskey, jet, pyscho, and buffout for the crafting and trade my radx, radaway and ammo for those chems.
Granted, the board itself isn't "the strongest weapon" but with the chem and food buffs it puts out the most damage at low levels, and its cheap to upgrade..you can be level 10 with a fully upgraded melee weapon with over 10 strength rather than waiting until level 30+ to fully upgrade a gun..and the 3rd person melee finishers are fun as hell
It still doesn't have long range, at least what I consider to be long.
Eh, if you're gonna do that, I'd just keep heading to Vault 88 until Cricket shows up and buy Spray and Pray.
if you can find one with a good legendary effect it'll serve you well until you get higher tier stuff.
also a laser musket with the 6 crank capacitor rivals the Gauss rifle in damage. its a solid sniper for sure
And finally the flamer is hot garbage (heh). if you want flamers get the assault flamer or flamer pistol mod. i like the assault flamer, its very fun against close hordes
I'm wondering if I should ditch any of the .38 guns? I'm kind of getting mixed answers ^^'
The thing is, in this game, is that even with weapon mods, every weapon plateaus. So, like, laser guns are good for a while, but they eventually max out, while plasma guns will continue to improve well past them, so you practically forced to retire old weapons and adopt new ones fairly regularly. It's actually one of the more frustrating aspects that, by end game, 95% of all weapons are worthless. So you will HAVE to ditch them, and everything else you have right now, at some point. The .38 guns are the weakest, so yeah, expect to stop using them after the first 5-10 hours, and even then, you will probably mostly use them for trash mobs, and use the shotgun or 10mm for tougher fights.
Used a 10mm pistol & pipe rifle in the beginning
I did use a Comfort Grip Auto Pipe pistol for a while, but I've kind of noticed how it tended to move upwards outside of VATs.
That's true! Thank you!
