Mod authors and most modders know that old saves that have had mods installed and uninstalled over 100's or 1000's of hours can break. If this is news to you, well, then i guess its time to learn.
uninstalling mods regardless of what kind of mod always presents a risk to hurting you old saves, or current playthrough.
the amount of conflicts and utter crap that is left in certain mods, that shouldn't be there always is remarkable to me.
so, if you start a new game and the issue persists, its mods faults.
but if you start a new game and issue is gone, it was your fault because of something you did regarding installing or removing mods, that we may never figure out because a mod that you removed might have some scripts in it, or some remnant that the mod author left that they forgot about that screwed up your game.
If you have any mods that change the workshop or workbenches in ANY way I would uninstall, re-downdload, and do a clean install of them first.
If that's not the culprit, likely something in your base game files is messed up.
Yes, very helpful. I am sure the hundreds of others who have had this or similar issues I ran across while researching solutions and are looking for a fix are enlightened by the wisdom you shared in how to solve this problem.
also if its affecting more than one save, it sounds like it is script related. if thats the case your kinda effed.
scripts can remain attached to save files LONG after the related mod and script has been deleted, sometimes permanently.
It might be a weird glitch that was caused by a script made by a Mod author. for mod weapons, often mod authors will use injection scripts to put the gun into the world, and maybe somehow the author messed with something they shouldn't, or it could just be the old skyrim engine screwing something up because of some script, some fluke of some sort.
in any case it sounds like youre gonna need to modify your save file or start a new save, if what you have done doesnt fix it.
I hope what youre doing fixes your issue though.
