running fallout 4 on low end hardware?
yes, I know this is stupid. but I currently dont have the money to get a pc/laptop that can run the game nicely.

im using a laptop thats decent, exept for the gpu.
the graphics card is an intel hd 4000.

so what im trying to do is run fallout 4 over 15ish fps.
the only way i was even able to get it to run was with dxcpl.
I tried using mods to get it to run faster (like getting rid of bushes) and I got no difference.
if theres really, REALLY no way to get it to run (and im fine with 20 fps) then what would be the cheapest option to get this game to run (and please dont say build a pc, ik thats the smartest thing but i need something thats as cheap as it gets.)

i would be suprised if you can get it to start with an intel hd gpu!

But i can try and help as much as i can.

disable all background processes that you do not need, including internet and your anti virus.

turn of steam overlay

download an ultra low graphic mod there are 1 or 2 available on nexus 'you can watch a video on youtube that will help decide'

in your fallout ini files turn of godrays and volumetric lighting by setting the value from 1 to 0

lower the screen resolution as much as you can and disable and turn every setting as low as possible!

there might be some other things someone else can suggest!

good luck and let us know if these suggestions help.

Forget it. Even if you could you'd hate it and miss the best bits. Wait til you get big rig even if it's years.

What would you like us to say? The only option is to buy a better computer, but you do not want us to tell you that, even through deep down you know that is the only answer...

There is only so much speed you can get out of hardware.

Its like your entering a race, where you need a car that does 120 in order to win, yet your engine is only capable of going 90, tweaking it gets it to 95, removing all the interior to lighten it gets it to 105, but your still 15mph off the speed, the only option is a bigger faster engine, but that is not what you want to hear???

The same with your computer. While you do not want to hear it, your computer is too slow, its below the minimum for the game, you simply need a faster computer.

Going the cheap route is only going to lead to you having this problem every single time you try to play a new game. If you don't like or can't afford the cost of PC upgrades, consoles are there (even if they suck).

It would still suck, even if manage to get it to run in an stable manner.
You might also try out som low-spec mods, but i honestly don't think its woth the efford.
There are Millions of older games out there, many of them free or cheap (Fallout 3, New Vegas, Old Skyrim) you can play instead and have a good time.

go to a pawn shop and buy a console for a couple hundred and play it on console. This would be the cheapest way. I played 970 hours on the PS4 before being able to afford a rig that would run this game. It is a bit ugly on the ps4, and the draw distance is horrible, but it runs at a steady 30 fps. Or whatever the console is locked at.

guess you shouldn't buy this game in the first place, if gifted, don't play this game at all on a low end pc. because the game will scream for help due to starvation.

Best stick with FO3 or New Vegas, both run like a champ on my A10-4600M laptop should have no problem on your Intel HD gpu. Check out this vid of FO3 on HD4k

The cheapest You could do is skip this game and Buy New Vegas instead. You won't have to upgrade your rig, And You'l be playing a much better game. Both cost effective and a better solution.
There are ways.

First thing you have to do is remove all dl content and mods as theses will never be compatible.

Then you have to downgrade to one of the very first versions of fo4 (any version before game works was implemented).

Then finally mod the game so it can start with dx level 10.

Once you complete all of this it should launch and play reasonably enough at the lowest possible resolution.

I'm not sure how to do all of this, I just know that the game will run if you complete everything above.

Google is a better friend in this case.

Good luck 🍀

Go to youtube and search for low spec gamer. He has a video for fallout 4 and I'm sure it will run but it won't look pretty.

I get the game to work on Intel HD 5500 and an i3. I had to use DirectX Control Panel to force the game to use an older version of DirectX.

An hd 5500 is much faster than an hd4000.

I have also seen the youtube vid of the guy with a 4000 who got it to play at 15-25fps, however his draw distance was 4ft from his face, it was totally unaplayable as a game, even standing at one end of a house in sanctuary, was causing the far wall not to get rendered.....you look through the window, there was no interior till you actually walked in through the front door when walls would suddenly pop up and hit you in the face.

Really just wait till you get a better computer.

That actually sounds like it'd be funny if you were trying to RP someone with partial blindness. No perception, walls popping out and smacking you in the face... Could be fun!
