There all stand alone stories with the only ties being some refrence to the other games so it doesn't really matter

Hm let me think a moment, thats a very difficult question.

How about Fallout 1, 2, 3, NV, 4..

But i am not sure..so many numbers could trick you ..

i think with fallout 2 is enough to get the lore of the game like @jrr101 said there all stand alone stories it doesn't matter what order you play.

Although true one should really play 3 before 4. There are lots of Easter eggs in 4 for those familiar with 3 that one would not get if they played 4 before 3.

I would play them in order of oldest to newest because each new game they upgrade the features and combat and crafting etc.. so if you play a new one and really like it you won't enjoy the old ones as much

Tactics takes place between 1 and 2

I would go 1, 2, New Vegas, 3, 4

Tactics is a spin off that has no bearing on anything else, so it can be skipped.

The reason for my order is because 1 sets up 2, New Vegas finishes up the west coast storyline. Then you move on to the east coast with 3 and 4, the reason for 4 being last is because it has references to things that happened in 3.

If you really want to play Tactics (remember, it has NO bearing on any of the other games in the series and is a one-off) then you can shove that between fallout 1 and 2, since it takes place between the timeline of those games.

Fallen Earth , Fallout 3 , New Vegas , Fallout 4.
That way you appreaciate the experience and development of the Fallout game after coming of a game that makes you wait f**king 2 real days to craft tires for your car :Miller:

if u follow the time line its 1 2 3 NV 4. each is set a "few" years after the one before.
in 1 it is not so far aafter the bombs drop, in 2 u play an ancestor of u character in 1 in the same area, with many references and characters u get known in 1 (hi again Tamy) . 3 is again set a few years later with many references to the first 2 parts but within another area (oh hi again ed :) ) NV comes after that in timeline (wow the NKR spreaded a lot since Tamy founded them betwen 1 and 2) and 4 is the one with the most time passed since the big bang with followers of the bos chapter u get known in 3.

You also should try the great Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel game. It is very good and really exciting.
