Razer Cortex does NOT double your FPS
I just tested Razer Cortex and yeah it's crap. It messes with the steam overlay FPS counter and doubles the actual value (30FPS = 60FPS). So yeah don't download that ♥♥♥♥. Might help in some cases since it does terminate some processes but it's only freeing memory and some CPU usage so if you have a bad graphics card and a decent CPU and 4GB+ RAM free it's pointless. Your time is better spent on learning how to overlock your graphics card instead.

I figured it was just doubling the FPS counter for Steam, since it still felt like 25 FPS when it said 50 FPS. Aside from the FPS it feels worse when it's on. Something just isn't quite right, but I can't figure out what it is. I think the performance is actually worse with it, seems to be more frequent drops in FPS..

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Steam's FPS counter is a joke. I've caused the very same problem in my own software and had to write some extra code just to make sure Steam's counter wasn't counting double in DX11 mode.

But my goldflaked semidiamondplated interconnect cable really improves my soundquality.

Snake oil will always bait some people. It's the nature of things.

I've had it stick at 1FPS before even if the game was running 60 as reported by EVGA PrecisionX OSD.

razor has these other programs they install that is tracking your mouse movemnts, i have a razer keybord, and i got razer comms. i noticed that all of a sudden Payday 2 felt wrong. not smooth and buttery like usuall. i found that razer without my knowlege installed multiple coppies of these programs all wresling your controller reactivness. Razor has lost a lot of points with me seince i found out.

wosrt thing you can do to a gamer is mess with his input speeds

Wasn't aimed at you, just a general comment to people who believe that software can magically double your fps.

Yep. Razer's hardware build quality declined alongside their software becoming effectively malware, so I made the jump. I don't regret it; Steelseries has amazingly good drivers and their build quality is higher to boot (although still not as high as I'd like).

rly smartass? if you have a shot pc cortex cant help you.
If you have a decent pc you get 60 instead of 45 frames. using that ♥♥♥♥ for years now.

other benefits are, it stops useless tasks, so you dont get lagspikes coz of updating ♥♥♥♥ apps or windows and most important: the save cloud.
see it as ds3 cloud xD coz you will always have your save uploaded.

It takes several seconds to start averaging frames and even then it's never accurate. It's quite mind boggling actually since the level of statistical analysis that the in-home streaming client does on framerate is very, very high.

The overlay's framerate counter is crap. In-home streaming's counter is very accurate.

It's only magic if you don't understand how it works.
