Is it true? Is VMProtect gone?
Quoting Kaldaien's updated thread, has it seriously been removed or is it no longer an issue to modding now?

It's still there but Kaldaien already have workarounds.
Praise sweet baby jesus!

...Though I'll still play Fire Emblem Fates til this all blows over to fully working.

Fates absolutly kicks ass, won't be playing this until we have 60fps back.
Yeah, I know everything I need to about VMProtect now to go about business like usual ;)

There's still the issue of the stupid temporary executable it spits out, which necessitates the tsfix_enabler.exe system... but I can get down and dirty and modify the game's instructions while it is running now without any problems.

They have extremely primitive anti-tamper measures, they just throw a bunch of them at you. If you bypass them one-by-one, you're back in business with no effort. The whole thing is pointless.

I realise it almost totally failed in this regard, but the idea is that those people who really want a given game are more likely to actually fork out for it if a pirate copy isn't immediately available on release.

After the first few weeks, most of the interest has died off and it doesn't much matter whether the protection is broken.

Huh. I guess you could say it might've worked in reverse in this instance.

That would have been true if the game hadn't been cracked after, like, 3 hours?
Besides this is a 12 year old game. Everyone who wanted to pirate this could have already done so and easily played in on Dolphin.

Or a softmodded wii, which I don't believe is hard to do. Also on the wii u's virtual wii.

Er, yes, that's what I'm saying. The intention is to delay, not prevent, piracy (bearing in mind that more effective measures come with a cost), explaining why they bother to implement cruft such as VMProtect in the first place - but in this case it likely worked in reverse; pirate copies were available early (albeit without save functionality, from what I hear), and likely many people who were interested in buying legitimately were put off from getting the PC release at all (which may not've happened if work on the fan patches hadn't been impeded).

Ah, my bad. I kind of missed part of your first sentence.

... It's early : P

that doesn't happen anymore read patch notes

What, this bit?:

Players should no longer be able to launch multiple instances of the game through the TOS.exe in the games folder.

That's talking about your ability to have your computer run multiple copies of the game at the same time. The temporary executable thing is something else entirely.

Game no longer makes Temp EXEs

Nothing has changed. You can see this easily in task manager after opening the game. Right click the *.tmp file and select "Open file location" to see the hidden directory the exes are generated in.

The ridiculous part is that the official patch notes for 2/2/2016 claim that "The game will no longer attempt to write to the C: drive", which is clearly not true.

Only if you grab the pirated version. You're not using that, are you? :P

How is that not true? If your user profile is on drive D, it now writes there.
