How does this compare to Tales of Phantasia and Tales of Eternia?
The previous Tales games I've played were Tales of Phantasia on the Super Famicom (kinda) and Tales of Eternia on the PSX. Overall I love them both. Granted it has been over a decade since I played a Tales game but from the looks of gameplay videos the overall gameplay looks and feels the same. Can I expect the same level of enjoyable if not more so compared to previous games in this series?

Comments and opinions are appreciated,

Thank you

All great games. I have a fondness for Eternia and Phantasia that exceeds my fondness for this game.

It's basically Phantasia, Eternia, Symphonia, Graces, Abyss for me. The rest of the games in the series are so-so.

Seeing as there's only 1 of the games I just listed available on PC, that's probably worth something (even if the unmodified game isn't) :)

While I have not finished either of them (good to hear Kaldaien holds them in higher regard than this game!), Symphonia is basically Eternia in 3d, barring the 3d making it easier to dodge spells and similar special moves. I would say yes.

Phantasia and eternia were good. But this is a lot better than those two games. By the way, this game coincidentally takes place about 4000 years before the events in Tales of Phantasia.

Thank you for the responses everyone. Perhaps I'll just pick it up now given how cheap it is.

Interesting. Are all the Tales game linked in some way? I know the Suikoden series kinda are but might be spread out by some number of years.

All Tales games are not linked in any ways. But sometimes there will have some Tales games taking place in the same world but different era. You can find out about this if you noticed some names being similar...
For example, Phantasia and Symphonia both uses mana.. And the world tree, Yggdrasil existed in Phantasia is because of the events of Symphonia (the tree was borned in the ending of Symphonia). There are a lot more similarities which will takes quite some time to list them all.
By the way, there are some titles with names for example: Tales of Xillia, Tales of Xillia 2. In that case, they would be direct prequel and sequel. Despite all that, you can still play the sequel even without any knowledge of the prequel story because each games have their own plot.

While this is true, i recomend you to play the first one there's a lot "small" detalis that change how you see certains events

Technically, Symphonia is a prequel to Phantasia. So if you play you'll likely recognize some things that appear 4000 years later in Phantasia (that is if you remember it at all lol)
That being said, you don't need to play one to enjoy the other.
I think Symphonia is faublous. One of the best JRPGs of all time. Lovable cast, good/not generic plot, and good music. Better than most Final Fantasies lol
