Fencing Sword
Hi. So, after a solid 5 months, has anyone figured out a good use for the fencing sword yet? I really want to love it but it doesn't seem all that useful. The low armour damage and penetration means it should really only be used against low / unarmoured enemies. I'm assuming it works on a specialised ini build, but why would I bring a specialised build to fight against low level raiders? Especially when an archer does the same job better because it requires less positioning. I can't see it being better with goblins either.

And what does it replace? A backline melee build? An archer? A frontliner? Who would I use it instead of?

I suppose it could be used against a beast. Beasts tend to not wear armor.

Even direwolves have decent natural armor. It will never match mails and plates of course but... You know...

Precisely. Fun not efficient. Unless the stars align. Named Fencing Sword with improved regular and direct damage. Assassin with talents in Melee Skill, Initiative and whatever else. Needs a few hundred hours I guess.

on my lone wolf EIL here, 140 days in, found a fairly good fencing sword....and happen to got a nice recruit for it too, he's level 8 now and just got nimbe, probably will be better when I got duelist in next level.

ok, just tested him out, he could do nearly 90 armor damage + 2x hp to a raider by lunge and also finish the raider off same very first turn here.

This is without duelist and other damage buff, i'm liking him so far because he could attack 3 times a turn and moving 1 tile (1 tile for lunge is free and without worry about enemy attk of opportunity.

Yes he seem powerful for raider, but weak again orc warrior, noble, chosen...
I just need normal t4 mace 1h with duelist to finish a raider in 2hit ( executioner ), and no need weapon mastery perk
Why would u waste a build for raider

well, because probably i spent like 1k hours on the game already and never got a fency guy? ;)

If i just need the damage i will just let the lone wolf guy do that, he got ironlung, orc greataxe and 102 mle atkk after all :)

I spent 1k2 hour too, and every new dlc, enemy get stronger
Wtf when my duelist (102atk) miss 2hit attack a peasant and got 2 hit again by peasant
And with 51def (underdog) still get 6/10 hit by fallen betrayer

My advice? Either do or don't play the lottery, depending how you look at it.

I put them as backup melee weapons on my archers. They already have very high Initiative as I enjoy Dodge and Overwhelm so the weapon is pretty much tailor-made for them, not to mention thematically fitting for a fast, lightly-armored warrior.

Is it an optimal solution that can be used against Sea of Tents? Hell no! But it's really fun to mix things up and also offers a bit more leeway when it comes to positioning and field control

I do think the weapon is a fun idea, but I don't want to lose bros just in pursuit of a fun idea that doesn't actually work (after a while that becomes not fun). Ultimately it's the opportunity cost that I think is too high. I just don't see why I wouldn't take a bro with a different loadout instead. I love the idea of having some use for an ini melee build, but right now I don't see why I wouldn't just roll for a two hander.

I'm just now fighting some goblins and I wonder if that it's best use. Anyone have a dedicated goblin hunter build?

Fencer would likely be quite good against Goblins. Give him the Goblin trophy necklace and Resilient (to protect against insect swarms). Warbrand is quite good too. Two-handed cleavers can one-shot them with the right modifiers. Pathfinder really good due to Goblins having high mobility and going for elevation. Warscythe and Adrenaline help with killing them faster and so routing them faster.
