HECU Improvements
So Im really into Black Mesa and i love it but one of my biggest gripes with it is fighting the HECU Marines. Im not sure what it is about them, but i seem to find them really unenjoyable to fight. Maybe it has something to do with the damage they do to you is too rapid and you take it too quickly, maybe the knock back is a bit too strong, maybe its the fact that if you take cover, instead of throwing grenades to keep you on the move they run, they run up to you like braindead combine. Look im honestly not sure what it is. Maybe its just that i suck at games but while i'm no experienced pro gamer or game developer, and while crowbar collective probably won't see this, i hope that crowbar collective eventually find ways to improve the HECU and possibly even playtest them to get feedback.
Feel free to express your thoughts and tell me if you disagree or agree. what do you think crowbar collective could do to improve the HECU Marines.

I think it's more that some of the level design doesn't fit the HECU AI. It functions the same way the HL2 combine did, and need alternative paths to take so they can flank. This works mostly in chapters like "we got hostiles" and "power up", but "questionable ethics" has a lot of long barren corridors that leave the AI no options but to face you head-on.

Overall I would say it works pretty well and there will always be situations where any AI will have problems.
There is difficulty option, try it.
HECU AI itself is good ehough.

I switched the difficulty to easy and im fine with that for now. My point was i just feel maybe they could try to work on the marines so they'd be funner to fight.

For me it´s the aim-botting and enemies constant awereness of players position. This is ridiculously obvious in Surface Tensions drain canal section when the tank knows PRECISELY where to fire, even when crawling in the canals. It breaks immersion which is truly a shame when things otherwise play so well. I hope CC takes care of this problem at some point.

^that part hasn't really changed much since the initial mod release so I'm not holding my breath. Maybe there'll be a variant of Mmod released for Black Mesa.

HECU marines got lazy ported combine soldiers AI, they barely throw grenades like they did in hl1 neither they take cover or tries to flank you and overall are dumb just like most enemies in this game. Black mesa devs decided to "fix" it by turning marines into bullet sponges who can tank 3 shots from shotgun on a close range and their laser accuracy with overpowered mp5 (which has no recoil and no spread.) is also terrible.

They are poorly designed and i firstly tolerated it but this complain is here since 2012 and no improvements has been done for HECU past 7 years and have i forgot to mention that turrets are overpowered as one turret kills you faster than 4 hecu with mp5 on close range.


I would like to know how damage is calculated in Black Mesa because certain enemies are overpowered (zombies completely ignores HEV armor) bullsquid acid spit is unavoidable unlike in the original game and tears your armor rapidly fast and Black ops almost ignores your HEV armor with 9mm pistols not to mention bugs how climbing ladders is bugged, ai pathfinding is awful and on the rail sometimes your train pushes you back and not sure but some parts of game were cut back in 2012 and i'm not sure if they were implemented back or not.

Well If nobody in Crowbar Collectives gonna fix it i wish somebody made an improved ai mod on the workshop

Yeah so they cut on the rail and surface tension chapters and also black ops pistols are bugged if you pick them up they override and breaks your default glock slot oh and AI is so terrible it made me to leave black mesa and replay half life 1 again

I don't get why crowbars collective couldn't be competent enough to just port their level designer mods on rail uncut and surface tension uncut as both mods are excellent in quality, their last update just added lens effect (god why lens effect) are so unnessesary and only eats your VRAM why don't they update their textures on higher resolution we are in 2019 and some textures looks ugly. And also i hate their HECU design because for crowbar collective HECU are wearing standard kevlars and not PCV like in half life, and crossbow is firing poisoned darts not sleeping darts get it right.

Not adding OaRU had nothing to do with competence, it was a design call. Lens flair, csm and god rays were added to the engine for the Xen update.
You probably need to read the news because you are sorely mis-informed.

can you tell me then why OaRU isn't added? And i think you can make xen beautiful without adding crappy lighting effects or if they are needed then they could be only on XEN not everywhere it eats VRAM and i have 1080ti.

What part of "design call" don't you understand. It's not even a big deal because OARU is just a mose click away in the workshop.

I'm sorry you have such a low-end gpu that running a source engine game uses its vram, save up some money for your next build or lower the games graphics settings so your system can handle it.
You are free to make your own beautiful version of zen any way you see fit, until the you'll just have to put up with what crowbar collective is doing.
