Rikku, Tidus, Auron
So, who else mainly used this combination in the endgame? I know I did.

Tidus Wakka Yuna for me

Tidus, Rikku and Wakka (mainly for overdrives)

Auron's max damage is relient on low health, so he loses his edge for me in the late game (regarding m. arena and super bosses anyway)

Tidus, Wakka, Rikku is the usual endgame combo because the overdrives are the only distinguishing difference between characters, and those 3 have the best ones BY FAR.

Yuna is a summons bot, and little else.

Auron has a niche use in applying breaks with his 3rd overdrive during early Monster Arena grinding (as well as being a 1-HP damage machine before STR maxing).

Lulu would be useful early end game because her magic is usually much higher than other people's strength at that point, unfortunately her celestial weapon is the hardest of all to unlock so she'll never (realistically) have break damage limit and is therefore useless.

Kimahri... is Kimahri. He has nothing special about him, as all his overdrives are useless.

Side Note: if any modder is reading this, issue like these would be a wonderful starting point for some solid gameplay mods ;)

I'm gonna say getting Lulu's Celestial Weapon is terrible, but getting Wakka's is the actual worst. I never want to think about Blitzball again.

While Blitzball can get tedious at times, at least it's consistent, and completely independent of manual dexterity. I hate it when I have to go all trigger-finger-hand-eye-BS in a game where the entire combat is essentially full-pause chess. But maybe that's just me.

Also you can spread the Blitzball playing around, starting very early in the game (in fact getting Attack Reels right after Luca will trivialize every story boss because it's OP), while you have to sit through Lulu's slog in one excruciating session.

Yeah, Attack Reels FTW. Still, using Rikku, Tidus and Auron has been as constant for me as choosing Crash Dash first when playing Crash 2. Something that has always been ingrained in my mind.
Hinnyuu Jul 8, 2016 @ 6:59am
Part of that may also have to do with how easy the celestial weapons are to acquire. Rikku, Auron and Yuna are likely the easiest, then Wakka. Tidus, for all the 0:0:0 annoyance, is probably next, then Kimahri and then, after a long, long while, Lulu.

I know that when I first played, Auron and Rikku were always in the team because of that. I had their weapons, and that naturally made them the best choices for quite some time.

I've always felt like people slam the lightning dodging and chocobo racing while giving Blitzball a pass, and that is mildly irritating to me. But that's a very good point. It didn't occur to me to think of it like that.

Speaking of Blitzball, it would be fun if SE made it it's own game someday...

To add on: Blitzball progress can be made gradually, at a players pace. If you can win with any consistency, Blitzball is purely a time sink to get your target, very little luck is involved. Requires minimal precision to get a win.

Lightning and Chocobo however have to be done all at once, and require some luck *and* more precision.

Blitzball is also trivial to beat. The only game even remotely challenging is the Luca tournament one, and that can be consistently won as well with a few tricks. After that, in free agent play, I don't think I've ever lost a game. Heck, I don't think I've ever even given away a single goal except during my first one or two playthroughs ten years ago.

It's just way too easy to get incredibly OP team members, and the only way the AI can even begin to put up any sort of a fight is, I'm told, at very high levels (like 70+), i.e. a point no sane person will ever reach because you get all of Wakka's stuff long before that.

Now Chocobo and Lightning, well, no growing out of those. Frustration incarnate. I did Lightning once, and then said never again. Chocobo I did many times, but now with a save game editor I just skip it.

for me the cococbo thing is rather easy. I know when I first did that on PS2 i was raging like hell but today i usually only need like 5-10 tries to get it done, i think people are so negative about that even though it isnt essentially hard. Even the 200 lightning bolts are fairly easy since the crater trick. So i can kinda understand people who would do the chocobo thing and the lightning thing because its just a pretty fast thing if you are into it while blitzball will take a long long time. I did the whole blitzball thing but I had to force myself because I usually get bored after one blitzball game because there is just no challenge at all

Most useful party for the endgame content:

Tidus, Rikku, Wakka

or

Tidus, Rikku, Yuna

Auron? kinda useless.

Lulu? beyond useless.
