Penance not appearing!?

Hello all,

I defeated Penance three times on PS2, PS3 and PS4. I know it well. I know you defeat the Dark Aeons, you get a cinematic, and then you can select Penance from the list of destinations on the airship.

I also know, 100%, that I have defeated all the Dark Aeons so please do not say "make sure". They aren't easy to beat, I remember them well! Despite that, I've gone back to all the locations to make sure they don't appear again and nothing is there.

I have seen no cinematic and Penance has not turned up on the list of destinations. Has anybody else had this issue?

I'm really annoyed as I worked so hard to get to fight him and get the trophy. :(

I have not used any of the "parameter" changes. As far as the boosters go, I have used increased or no encounters, speed up, and auto. Nothing else.



EDIT: Have found the answer - went back and did Yojimbo. I know I had, for a fact, already defeated him, but I guess it was one of those times that didn't save successfully (my game crashes 20% of the time when I change screens or try to save game).

Have beat Penance now and got the trophy. I didn't bother with the long battle as I had done previously - just threw a load of money at Yojimbo to finish him off for me. :D

Most people didn't know that you have to beat Dark Yojimbo five times in a row. The summoner will keep running away in the cave and you have to follow him. Beat Yojimbo five times and he'll be defeated for real. Returning to the airship through the save point will reset this event.

If that's not the case, maybe Dark Ixion. You have to beat him twice.

Thank you, but I did beat him fives time in a row, and have defeated Dark Ixion twice. As I said, I've done this quest several times. :(

I'm not sure if you have to beat Omega Weapon too.

I've beat him also. I've also beat Nemesis. But I don't think they have anything to do with Penance - it's just about the Dark Aeons. :(

I defeated Ifrit last. That's the only thing I can think of that I've done different to normal.

did you defeat the dark magus sisters also? all 3?

•Dark Valefor - In front of the village of Besaid. As you enter, a man will appear and summon him.

•Dark Ifrit - Go to the final area of the Sanubia Desert; near one of the quicksand pits is a woman looking for her daughter. When prompted to search, go north an area.

•Dark Ixion - In the Thunder Plains, go to the northern half of the area. You'll see a man standing below one of the lightning rods; speak with him.

•Dark Shiva - Simply return to Macalania Temple and speak with the Guado summoner as you approach.

•Dark Bahamut - In the Zanarkand Ruins, in the room where you fought Yunalesca and where the Sun Crest is found.

•Dark Yojimbo - After having gotten Yojimbo, go to the end of the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth and to the Fayth itself. Things become a bit tedious then, since you'll fight the guy five times; just never leave the Cave and never use the teleporter (unless you need to).

•Dark Anima - Go to the cave atop Mt. Gagazet. Go to the room where you threw Wakka's Blitzball at the thingy that had two shields around; repeat this there and win to fight this guy.

•The Dark Magus Sisters - Head to Mushroom Rock Road's entrance area; you'll see a woman speaking with a child there. Flee from them; as you go along running away, you will be caught up to by the summoners. If you make it to the other side without being caught, you'll fight the Magi one by one; otherwise, altogether.

•Penance - Defeat the other Dark Aeons and you can simply choose him from the NavMap on the airship.

Try going to the Calm Lands. It might trigger the scene.

One more thing I did to make him appear: Go to Bevelle and talk with Maroda & Pacce.

Monterossa - Only the Dark Aeons matter to Penance. You don't need to talk to anyone or defeat any other bosses.

Have found the answer - went back and did Yojimbo. I know I had, for a fact, already defeated him, but I guess it was one of those times that didn't save successfully (my game crashes 20% of the time when I change screens or try to save game).

Have beat Penance now and got the trophy. I didn't bother with the long battle as I had done previously - just threw a load of money at Yojimbo to finish him off for me. :D

What's your point? I HAD defeated all the Dark Aeons, so saying "make sure" to me wouldn't have helped beyond what I was already doing. I didn't know it hadn't saved, but regardless I was checking again.

My first and second checks didn't work because I used the teleport device rather than walking through the Cavern. I walked the last time. :)

Didn't you have to beat Dark Ixion Twice?

sorry for necroposting but you have to defeat ixion twice apparently if you did not go for the normal order of defeating the dark aeons. if you are sure you have beaten all of them but somehow penance is not spawining travel back to the thunder plains. the ghost of ixion will be there and the summoner .

Since this is the thread that appears when searching "penance not showing up" on google I want to add something. In my case I figured out I'd only fought Dark Yojimbo four times; I'd ignored the side room where the third(?) fight is located.
The cutscene that played when I beat the Dark Yojimbo at the entrance was different as well. When I'd missed a fight, the summoner ran away clumsily, but when I'd beaten all of them he just walked away calmly. Penance spawned right after.
So, if your Dark Yojimbo summoner ran instead of walking, you probably have to go back.

Lmao this literally happened to me Yesterday as well, I thought I beat Yojimbo 5 times then after beating the rest of the Aeons I was annoyed, then went back to the Cavern and saw that the fight triggers again. Yojimbo is the tricky one.
