i dont know how to beat him
i looked up guides and i just dont get it

what does Echo do?
how do i get to 50 quota?
how do you get the border coins to come back?

Quota is gained by using the border coins.
Echo boosts the amount of Quota you get, if you use the same amount of coins.
Border coins come back based on turns spent, I believe one of the in game tutorials mentions this.

So to get 50 Quota in time, you wanna use 2 or 3 border coins every time to get an Echo going and ride that to victory.

so if my Sum Number is a 1 im basically stuffed?

For a short time, yes. I've beaten Shinra while having the center hit 1 during the game.

As others have said, try to use the same ammount of coins each round to increase the echo bonus.

Unfortunately, the game is very RNG based... for any seasoned Sphere Break player, many 1s can mean it was an entire waste of time, and hardly any 1s or none makes it almost too easy. If you're lucky enough with 1s, you can usually kill it if you keep up an echo of 3.

Always check the borders for item coins in order to get Treasure Hunt. I recommend just getting used to Sphere Break a bit, reset until you get Treasure Hunt on your first round, and just hope you don't screw up or get too many 1s from there.

Try to not go for it when you're too tired if you can... making the slightest mistake can be infuriating (leading to more mistakes) and waste your time.

You can basically just beat him by using two coins on each round to make the total you need. It doesn't need to be more complex than that.

For echo effects look for a tutorial guy, he explains it pretty straight, keep in mind that you cant do echoes without special coins with echo traits. And RNG with 1s breaks is superdumb one of the worst game designes ever. The coin multiplier is pretty easy to do, the core multiplier is more tricky and can be hard to learn, also you can use "esc" pause ( normal pause not working ) to think about your turns, honestly with a pause this game is easy, without pause it is pretty challenging + rng.
