There's plenty of other things you can do now that are still quite effective. Even Catnip itself is still usable, on something like e.g. Thief with high AGI and inherent dual-hit attacks.
Via Infinito doesn't need lvl 99 or "every rare item", it's fairly easy to beat way before that. The only remotely challenging boss in there is Trema, really, and only because it takes a long time to kill. There's plenty of strategies that allow you to kill it fairly easily.
If anything, this version added MORE overpowered stuff because of the Creature Creator. A fully kitted Impale team can kill Trema in under 10 seconds. Catnip could never do that ;)
Trigger Happy+catnip would like a word with you.
Granted, it takes more work to get to that point; but then again there's also more to do. Even if it was still available, I'm not sure Triggernip could beat Major Numerus without serious cheese or insane luck.
In any event, Catnip was just a very linear, very boring strategy. Resulting to it as the go-to for everything devalued the experience for most people. If you still want to just be OP I'm sure you can use Cheat Engine or a similar tool and just set your damage to 9,999. That should replicate old Catnip pretty well.
I'd rather beat them legit and before you say it, catnip+trigger happy was legit since it was apart of the original game.
Yea, for real, first time i played this game, i accidently overleveled. It is very easy to overlevel in this game compared to other final fantasy games. Just try grinding in FF after years, it takes like 200 hours to even get that high a level. The grinding in this one is much much faster...
I know he exaggerating but seriously this is one of the easiest FFs to grind in.
Actually, im not exagerrating. I have played all final fantasy games in order so far. After years im not kidding, took me 156 hours to level up to level 70. Why? It has a large amount of characters to level, so all that time is to level them all up to that point. FF after years has more characters than in FF 6, which has the second largest character pool for any Final Fantasy games. Check my review and times on each game if you do not believe me.
I agree, this has the easiest way to level up in any final fantasy games, maybe with the exception of chrono trigger..but then that is not a final fantasy game..
As for speed of leveling, here is my personal opinion of what games have the easiest leveling for final fantasy games:
#1. X-2
#2. FF 6
#3 Type-0
#4 FF 5
NOTE: only played up to this game, so i do not know the tricks in the newer games after this. I did play xIII-2 on ps4, and also found that easy to level. Almost all ff games have a trick to leveling too...but i never found one to do it fast on after years.
Yes, it is easy to level up in type zero if you do it right also with the double exp items.
-edited..actually took me 156 hours...not 200.
lol ff6 is second easiest? Tyranitars and their meteor spells would like a word with you.:P Or better yet, the rare long next dino encounter that will one-shot anything below level 60. :P
There is a trick in avoiding it if you know how to do it. I can beat them at level 40 and they power level you when you have the right equips and accessory. Ive done in the SNES version, and the steam version. I also like doing the glitch inventory in the SNES version with the drawing skill when gau is on the veldt, but they removed that trick in the steam version.
If i remember, you use that skill that is mirage or something that makes double of your characters, cast it on all your characters, and there is a 50/50 chance you will survive meteor. Anyone that is not killed by it will power level up very fast, unless their level is very high.
On the SNES version you can also power level using the vanish-doom trick on most monsters. Again, they removed this from the steam version. Sadly, this method was very fast on SNES. There are still methods for fast power leveling in ff6 if you know how to do them.
Brachios are also a good source of power leveling when your level is low. They have a finishing move too you need to mirage for, but if you survive it, 50/50 chance, they can give you a crapload of levels and AP.

Here is a guy power leveling on tyrannos at level 56:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgVx1GB9jUw
He uses the double exp accessory, as i mentioned above, is one of the good accessories to use when power leveling. He also fights it by himself, maximizing the amount of exp he gains for specific characters. This is one of the many tricks you can use to level on tyrannos very fast.
Again, there are many ways to do it. Another method i used before is the mimic trick on using the meteor skill back at the dinos. If you can survive the attacks, this tends to super kill them fast too. Even more funny when you mimic the bracio's moves..they die in one hit from it usually..lol.
Most of these methods are very easy to do and not too complex. This is why ff6 is second on my list. The more complex on how to level characters, the further down the list they are.
BTW, most of these methods i found on my own before internet existed back in the day when i played the original SNES version. Alot of the same tricks that worked in that one work in the steam version, minus the sketch and vanish-doom trick. I even used to show my friends back in the day the vanish-doom trick in the game since alot of people did not know about it.
