A5 Engineered FSD V1 Completed!!
Ok...so after I unlocked Felicity and was working with her, I heard about an even better FSD. So of course I had to have it!

Getting the materials in Odyssey was a chore at first, but after figuring out a few things, I gathered what I needed

Ok...we went from a boot time of 10 s to 2 seconds!. Before mounting it...current range is about 30 ly with a standard load out for me during this trip with a hangar & SRV, weapons, limpets, ect.

Now, I've equipped it, without doing anything to it, and without any Guardian FSD boosters or other bonus gear (although I've been reading up on that!)

40 ly in an Asp X for a new player works! And without engineering!!

If anyone else does this for their ship and has any problems at all, let me know and I'll try to help out :steamhappy:

Now to find an engineering shop to see what can be done to this for even better performance. I've heard of about 70 ly being what folks are getting; we'll see!

I got close to 70 LY in my dbx without the guardian module I think it was about 66 LY I haven't bothered getting the guardian module just yet. I got 63 on my anaconda and took it to beagle point and that other distant system I can never remember the name of

Now...for mass manager or deep charge for this thing...hmm...

I'm using dc and have been quite happy with it

Yeah, since it's a class 5 in the Asp X, it works out slightly better using Mass Manager. Just using the following equation...

------

Where:
f is the fuel required (tons)
d is the distance to be travelled (light years)
M_ship is the mass of your ship (tons)
M_opt is the optimised mass of your drive (tons)
l and p are constants defined by the rating and class of your drive, respectively

This governs your maximum range, because your drive cannot consume an unlimited amount of fuel per jump. This is why, if you select a system beyond your maximum range and attempt to jump, the error you get is 'max fuel exceeded'.

Rearranging, we get:

https://i.imgur.com/VEyVV90.jpg

Now we can see more clearly the factors affecting our maximum range. It scales linearly with optimised mass (irrespective of anything else), but any multiplier of maximum fuel is raised to the power of 1/p. The question, therefore, is which gives the higher multiplier: a straight 1.04 (Mass Manager) or 1.1^(1/p) (Deep Charge)? This calls for a spreadsheet! I like spreadsheets.

FSD class p 1.1^(1/p)
2 2 1.049
3 2.15 1.045
4 2.3 1.042
5 2.45 1.04
6 2.6 1.037
7 2.75 1.035

You can now see that they give the same result for a class 5 FSD. Mass Manager would actually have a tiny advantage because M_ship includes the mass of the fuel needed for the jump, but it's already the best choice because it is more efficient.

------

Lol...found all this digging around. My brain is still smoking :steammocking:

Yeah I use dc on my Orca (large), so maybe mm is better for your ship

edit: I think it can jump some 56-62 Ly depending on load and fuel

Mass Manager definitely better - no spreadsheets just pure anecdotal evidence 😁

But seriously, Anything lower than class 5 deep charge will get better single jump results, but MM still gives better distance for fuel consumption overall so...

But yeah, my Krait Phantom is just shy of 70ly with double engineered FSD (plus MM) and the Guardian FSD booster. That's with some unnecessary stuff weighing it down and no AFMU coz I'm just kicking around the bubble with it at the moment

Yeah, Felicity only gives the increased range for FSD to level 4, right? I'll have to see who has the next upgrade for that....I have the first four with her, but the next is grayed out.

The guardian thing looks like a pain. I may be awhile for that...

*edit* n/m, Felicity does 5 as well, just need some more reputation with her...

Felicity does Grade 5 of all FSD upgrades. And Increased Range is the only one you should ever pick.

Gotcha. How the heck do you get reputation with her besides just crafting stuff you don't need? More exploration data?

Thanks!

I got her rep up after a trip to Colonia and back and sold my exploration data to her

You went... 22,000LY... without Grade 5 Increased Range FSD... to unlock something you could have done in a few minutes?

First off... don't bother with the "speedier" FSD, it's a waste of resources. This only effects how fast you can get into supercruise, it won't have any effect on hyperspace jumps. Not only that: if you're mass locked you'll still have delay issues.

Generally speaking you'll do more hyperspace jumps than engaging supercruise. Basically... you want the FSD range upgrade, always, because it makes your life a lot easier; you can get to places within the bubble (and beyond) a lot quicker.

My ASP-X? 50ly jumps, and that's with a full mining setup (lasers, refinery, limpets, you get the idea). I hop towards Maia in 4 - 6 jumps.

So... second, how to get better reputation. 2 options. First, I see you remembered: cartography data. But second... working on multiple ships. If you upgrade more stuff you'll also gain a better reputation. When I was working with Farseer I had 3 - 4 ships, so I worked on all their FSD's and that helped me increase my reputation as well.

No I got the double engineered fsd without needing farseer I figured when I got back I would sell the data there to unlock her so I could engineer my bigger ships

Why not? People have done the far side of the galaxy in an eagle without any engineering before now.
