"Locate Missing Delivery" missions not giving option to turn-in missing cargo

While hunting pirates I was notified of an optional mission to search for missing cargo of a delivery mission, which was 11 units of explosives. Since I was finished hunting pirates and I was itching for the extra bonus, I decided to do it; I found and looted the missing cargo, went to the space station to turn-in said cargo... but the option to do so was grayed out. In addition to that it said that I had 0 units of explosives in my inventory despite checking if I had all 11 units of explosives in my inventory (I did),

I relogged, re-entered the station, and even got out and back in my spaceship without any success. Looked online and saw from a post from 2-3 years ago that this was a problem and people just abandoned it. I followed suit and abandoned the mission and jettisoned the units of explosives (The former of which got me a fine, not an issue though) and continued on.

Just curious if there was a workaround or fix other than just ignore these types of missions for future reference.

You probably should just try to finish the mission; some missions automatically take away the commodities.

It's never worth doing those missions that they send you while doing other missions, especially when you're doing pirate massacres.
