And they do have limited fuel:

Btw, by "limited fuel" I meant "not self-destruct". Edited that into the OP now.
I do hope that people live up to the expectations they expect from others.
On the official forums there is a Suggestions area. At last count I think it was 1400 pages long, with 20 posts per page.
Ah, the suggestions sub-forum, where suggestions go to die.
That's what it's there for, just like every suggestion box and 'we value your feedback' button.
If the limpid are stored/maintained/refueled inside the controller.
It would make those things insane weight in the higher tier make sense.
Tho if Limpets got destroyed.
Then I guess having to carry some spare one just in case is fair.
But not like this system that's for sure.
They are fine as is imo.
True. I mean they could also get rid of limpet controllers and fit a limited number of unkillable limpets to every ship, or get rid of limpets and have a tractor beam, or get rid of tractor beams and just auto scoop everything in a 50 km radius, or get rid of items floating in space and just magically add them to your cargo hold.
Though my head canon/in universe explanation is that it's a consumerism thing. Someone company is manufacturing those limpets and it's in their interest that you keep buying more, more, more.
Sort of like planned obsolescence or whatever the term is.

(camera suite fine-tuning was another one from there, ground missions too)
