So the only alternative would be to book passage on a ship (either NPC or PC controlled) and then be bored while you have no control but are forced to watch the entire journey out of the passenger window.
Because of the above I think any sort of fast travel system very unlikely.
Whilst I dont agree with fast travel, we should be able to hire NPC's to form wings with our other purchased ships or have a way to have them shipped from one system to another and we should be able to see where we have been before and be able to make in game notes.
Taxis? fine. But real time.
But fast travel? No. Not for me.

2) No.
The correct way of doing a taxi service in Elite would be to hire either players or NPCs to fly you to your destination in real time. Fast travel itself is just a stupid idea and totally against the concept of the game.
But its a joke, that I cannot know where is my trading conda, and where is combat one. Oooonly if I dock on that station where one of them docked. And they can be 250 ly from each other. Thats really lol.
but i would welcome "emergency jump" mode that allow you to cross bit more (2x?) space at 1.2x-2x more fuel consumption to increase each jump range. just to avoid pirates or sectors, hostile to you.
I would not be opposed to some way to get your self "overnighted" though.
Absolutely not, this would allow players to fast travel to the new station being build in P. Nebula. Unnacceptable.
I've made a few suggestions on the subreddit, but it basically tl;dr's down to a buildable hangar that only the player can see, and anyone in their wing. You get one, and you fuel it; it acts like a station with Repair, Rearm and Refuel facilities- as well as a Frameshift Drive. You can dock with it, and give it a destination, and it will travel there in real-time. It won't be as fast as if you did it manually, might take 15% longer, but you can do this while offline. You needn't dock with it either- you can give it a command to path to any location within the human sphere and nearby, and it will respond quickly. However, once ordered, it can only be left to carry out its path, or ordered to stop, and in either case, it begins its 12-hour cooldown, mostly to prevent it being used as a lazy man's runabout. It's supposed to be a delivery service or emergency pickup, or overnight express. Not an active taxi.
As for deep space, it can only be called to your position, and will take the most efficient route, lore-wise, for safety and limited galaxy map data, following as much as possible in your wake.Ifu sed in this format, it won't have a 12-hour FSD cooldown, but must be boarded within an hour, and it will automatically turn around and begin the journey home. This is so it can't be used as an easy to access resupply base, but can be used as a one-off repair base if you badly need it.
So, yeah!
Actually I had it being an idea of a player Hangar. One large pad, since 95% of the time only the player will use it. Wings can use it if the owner has it open to wing, and the docking request will go to the player as an actual interactive message.
no, No and NO.
;)
Lazy.
