Vulture Bounty Hunting?
So all over the place everyone says the Vulture is the ship for Bounty hunting, be it missions or grinding out Resource sites of various kinds for money, everyone worships this ship. I noticed it only has 2 Large hardpoints...are they really that good to have no medium or smalls? And if I wanted to make a Vulture for bounty hunting to the max, exactly how would I outfit it?

I'll be in Xihe a while grinding the resource sites until I can afford something insane like a Python, Asp, or Anaconda even so I figure I need something that packs a little more punch than my Cobra...which while outfitted is starting to feel not as effective.

So just what makes the Vulture seem so godlike to everyone and why / how?

Trust me, 2 large hardpoints are more than enough. I run a Vulture with large pulse lasers and I melt through medium to small sized ships. Anacondas and Pythons are killable but take a little bit of time to chew through their hull.

The Vulture is also very nimble. Its much easier to stay on target than it is in say a Cobra.

The biggest draw back is power. You wont be able to fit every slot with the best module and will have to make sacrifices depending on how you play

Yes, they are that good.

2 large pulses can see even the biggest ships taken down in a minute, because the Vulture has the capacitor and the manouverability to stay on target for a decent amount of time while firing. Because of your manouverability you don't have to worry too much about pips to shields or engines, you can stick 4 pips in weapons for most of the combat without worry (for PvE anyway).

Only real risk can be a conda with flak canons, because your habit should be to get in close and behind the target. Flaks can hurt if you do that, so for those its better to stand back.

However, the conda does have a bit of a blind spot behind and beneath a bit. If you can stay close up there, then you should be fine.

As for kitting out to the max, its a fairly basic ship to kit out. With power management and clever fitting, you can even fit a shield cell or two on it.
It's basically an Eagle with 2 oversized guns, I don't really know what else you need to know.
And there are like 0 benefits for smaller hardpoints except that not all weapons are available for large and huge hardpoints, but as long as we have pulse lasers it's all good ...
Oh, and one tip, to save power, if you don't plan on leaving your current system, downgrade that FSD to the smallest you can take. Used that trick a few times to squeeze a few extra drops out of the powerplant. Before doing so though, make sure your target system sells better FSDs that you can fit, otherwise you'll be locked to that system and end up having to sell the ship.
The Vulture also has amazing shields, I managed to run it with 4 rating A shield boosters and 2 large gimballed pulse lasers. It takes ages to take your shields down. Don't use beamlasers tho, they drain your capacitors pretty quickly.
It is ultra maneuverable, but has very low standoff capabilities and its cockpit is ridiculously delicate. It also has some powerplant problems in certain configurations. Still, so far my favourite RES ship (despite me not liking it a lot, I have to admit, it's got the best performance there imo), although I haven't tried the new Federals yet.

Well basically I want to be able to hold my own in Resource / High intensity resource sites vs an Anaconda, at least until the feds show up, and be able to put some serious damage on it (or even kill it alone if possible)...while still melting the hell out of smaller ships.

I need to figure a good loadout, I can't imagine the default pulse lasers actually being that strong to merit not upgrading or using different weapons.

you'll get small pulse lasers for default. Upgrade to large pulse lasers.
mm Vulture such a fun ship to dog fight in, but remember, power management is key to getting the most out of the thing.

I might modify your build, rip out the extra fuel tanks, remove the interdictor, the fuel scoop, the chaff launcher, downgrade the life support, and replace pulse with Beam Lasers since I'm pretty accurate. Then I can just sit in HiRES areas and bounty hunt away.

No. Never trade out those pulses with anything. Especially not beams. Bad desision.

Why? Beams eat shields alive do they not? Then if I target power plants would they not melt those horribly?

You're getting burst firepower for a ship that can stay in position forever. Don't take the drawbacks of beams/bursts, as they take up huge energy for their dammage potential. Pulses on the Vulture are, and will always be your best bet, both in ecconomy, and in damage potential

You will run out of juice and perhaps also overheat the poor thing (before the job is done).

The largest power plant has trouble supporting C3 beams.
You can make it work, but you will have to cut back on other fun parts of the Vulture (good shields and thrusters).

C3 Pulses really are enough for a start. Experiment later.

Just do it and you'll find out pretty quick...your WEP will be drained so fast, any semblance of your battle blasting rhythm will be blown up itself. Its good advice but you probably need to go ahead and try it so you'll never do beams on our beloved Vulture's again. Ever.
