and most of all the time zones on when it is quite and when it is busy.
I've been playing since 2016 and still haven't done everything although I have discovered 5 systems (my name is on them). We've only explored 0.59% of our galaxy (yes the galaxy you live in) so there is plenty to do. The game is graphically stunning. BTW go check out twitch streamers as they all are very happy to help new players, even their viewers are happy to help.
Really depends where you hang out: in the void it's really only you and in the bubble doing the thargoid or CG stuff, there are plenty of players.
Yes, several, all the time.
thargoid war going on always plenty of people.
and anywhere people are exploiting the game to make lots of money.
ceos and sithos is still great places seeing people as everyone needs to grind for fed rank.
but remember this many people stay away from open as gankers dont leave a great impression on people.
So you will see people only on radar as a hollow square cube.
haz rez zones are great to see many other players
also CZ zones .
if your still struggling to find people you could try Rackams peak or hitch a Ride on a FC taxi.
or how bout find a squad.
11% of all Cmdrs in the game (who are also registered with Inara) are in Tavgi, which is the current CG system.
4.4% are in Imeut, which is the highest priority war system.

Keep in mind that space is huge, so even if you're in the same system as another player then there are no guarantees that you'll ever meet. I mean, they could be taking off from a space station while you're in supercruise heading towards said station.
A good way to check for this is your comms panel (button 2). It has a history tab which will show you which players you've encountered.
These days I solely play within Moebius (an international group of players devoted to pve), but when I played in open all the time I'd only meet players when I went to public sites like an engineer or Jamesons Memorial. Otherwise it would normally be weeks, sometimes months, before I met up with anyone.
Note: with "met" I'm merely referring to the same session: so them popping up in my history tab.
So yah, it can definitely feel like you're playing alone, even if you're not.
