Odyssey Mission Types and Suit
What Odyssey mission types do you recommend for a beginner with minimal combat, and is Maverick Suit like a Multipurpose ship?

I was overwhelmed in tutorial and died fighting over half a dozen of enemies. What weapons do you recommend and is there a site like Coriolis for Suits and weapons?

there are 3 suits beside standard flight suit and each has its own purpose:
Dominator for combat
Maverick with cutter tool
Artemis with sampler tool

i recommend:
transportation missions usually threat lvl 0
maybe salvage missions threat lvl 1
and when u getting into it a bit you can choose missions with threat lvl 2 upwards
Or try a bit of being a exo bio / explorer.

the Maverick suit you need if there is any needs to cut door excess panels, abandoned srvs, crashed sats, lockers in buildings,..

Cheers Rueben, what do Transport and Salvage missions involve and are they grouped as such inside station?

What weapons and engineering do you recommend?

I went inside station first time last night cos have been busy fighting wars and defending my PMF since Odyssey broke faction BGS.

Transportation mission, usually pick up something (locker, crate, ...) or download something (data point) at a planets settlement. the salvage missions are nearly the same but instead you mostly are sent to an crashed ship, satelites, the easy ones of course.

whatever, every mission is well described ingame so just have a look at the missions panel and read the objectives and dont forget to check if you met the requirements.

weapons and engineering. kinetic against armour, laser against shields, and plasma doing ~50/50.

I use plasma weapons. the pistol and the executioner ive already lvl3 and they are oneshot weapons if no shielded target, and 2-3 shot if shielded depends on the range etc.. so i dont know why to upgrade them further at all. its not that in detail so just pew pew. but the plasma slug is flying slow so you have to get a bit into it how to aim but its not that hard.

engineering ive e.g. more range mod on the pistol, stability on the rifle and a backpack on my maverick.

but here is a list of all engineers and so far known mods: https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Engineers

The maverick suit is the only "Must Have" suit. It's decent in Combat, but its inventory is exceptional, especially when you get a backpack upgrade.

The types of missions you should be starting out on are simple Courier jobs "Fetch the <item> from <settlement>" is usually the description.

Low Intensity Conflict Zones are also okay. Stay with a group of AI and you're unlikely to be killed, even if you are, there are no penalties for dying in CZ, you respawn in a dropship and get right back into the fight. Ideally you do these in the dominator suit, but it's not necessary. Just use your allies as cover.

In addition to the above.. never forget that you can get a little creative. Last level 0 transport missions I did I also managed to sample a guard and then use their access level to get me into a place which had more goodies. It's a nice way to "work the system" IMO.

if you go to settlements without power you most likely need arc cutter tool from maveric suit to get in

Take threat level 0 missions. Ground combat is a pile of garbage and you will die and fail missions frequently regardless of your skill level with first person shooters. It plays like a second rate fps from 15-20 years ago. Lost count of how many times I've been one-shot before I quit trying.

I have yet to be killed in Ground combat. That's including High Intensity CZs and having to fend of OMNIPOL during Heists. Sounds like a you problem tbhqhmf.

I have only been killed once. And that's because I forgot to turn on my shields, and they threw a grenade at me.

I don't have much of first person shooter skills, though. So I do it very carefully. Maybe that's why I manage to survive and to kill them all with my basic suit/weapons. Level 3-4 power restoration missions - no problems.

What you have to turn your shields on? Tutorial didn't tell me that ;P

Can you dodge away from a grenade throw or does it track you?

I remember that the tutorial guy did tell me to turn my shields on, before engaging those guys.

But it's not good to have it on all the time, as it drains suit's power pretty hard. And I forgot in what state I was, thought that shields were on.

There is not much time to run away from it. Besides, it's not too deadly, assuming that you have your shields on. And I didn't. :)

Well good for you.
I played first person shooters for more than a decade before I got into games like this. Getting killed by an NPC in one shot as soon as they're engaged is most definitely not a problem on the users end. Tell yourself it is all you like, that doesn't make it true.

Amazing. I've been playing first person shooters since I started gaming online...20+ years. I can peek around a corner and engage an NPC and I'm dead before my shot reaches them...it's actually happened just like that. It reminded me of playing Doom or Quake on Nightmare. Weird.

You literally can't be one shot in the game if you have your shield on. There's a one-shot protection mechanic in the game. The only exception is the Shotgun, and if you're close enough to be one-shot by the shotgun, you got what you deserved.

The only other weapon even close to being capable of one shotting you, is the Sniper Rifle (Plasma) which fires a slow moving projectile and the NPC AI isn't particularly great at leading you, so as long as you aren't standing still, it's not a threat. And even it takes 2-3 shots to kill, depending on your shield strength.

I believe you, I really do, but it's happened nonetheless.
Honestly, what do I have to gain by making something like this up. I have an extensive background in first person shooters and know a one shot kill when I see one.
I'd have to say that mechanic is broken or not functional 100% of the time.
Grade 2 Dominator purchased...shields up. Grade 3 Executioner...locked and loaded. Shoot at NPC from a good distance...I'm dead. That quick. No indications of prior hits. Saw no blips on the radar indicating enemies sneaking up my six. Just dead.
