Ever since then, people keep asking for it and Frontier typically ignores such talk.
In short, it's highly unlikely it'll ever be implemented.
The offline mode was canceled because they decided to make universe-wide background simulation. Means that when i buy all available beer on a station - this will affect supply and demand and price even for you when you playing single player, in a group or online.
Nevertheless not cool to promise an offline mode in kickstarter and cancel it short before release.
cheers
As s all kickstarter i support and i support some, things you think on a project are doable or not.
In the case of elite, the solution to use cloud server need an internet connection.
Beside that, David says in early stage that solo mode don’t need a high connection.
i tested it while i was sick at hospital and he is right, you can disconnect a bit and reconnect ne still can play.
That don’t mean you can play disconnected, that mean that you can loose your connection some time and continue to play.
i just tested again on Horizon and it worked
i jumped without problem while i was in offline mode (no internet)
Cheers
Empyrion is not quite compareable with ED. And as I said - there are server running that manage the whole universe - trade, fractions -behaviors -war -peace and so on. Of course for everybody who starts the game to be in the same universe. There is no real trade or other things in Empyrion - i know - i played the game quite a time :) but it's growing.
It's not otherwise provided. As i said, they had to rewrite almost the whole game - so this isn't done by throwing a patch at you and here we go. This will not happen.
@ Dexinition
yes i know that ED do not need much of bandwidth. When you press CTRL + B you can see your network usage. Network connection is just requesting position of other playes in the zone if there are some and matching data with the FDev Servers for Fraction and Trade purposes i guess.
But it is not designed for playing offline. In this condition when you were able to play fully offline - there would be no fraction data, no trading data and i am pretty sure some other stuff that we see as obviously won't work at all.
Oh yes - just look at your local installed client : my ED folder is approx. 74GB large.
And than you will put on top the server data just to play offline? ;)
But i was amble to play without problem in solo mode and didn’t noticed problems. The only one was mission refresh which needed the connexion. to update ,, that’s all :)
They gave us a galaxy and a game on a 720k disk almost 40 years ago.
That's not the limitation.
FD have said that once the game goes end of life they will release an offline patch. What will take the space is BGS states, first discoveries, etc. As FD said about making an offline patch, it will be a static universe. No dynamic states, no first discoveries.
I don't believe you have any evidence that this was laziness on their part whatsoever. I think it is far more likely that it was just not possible with the way the Galaxy is stored online and with the resources available. Obviously it is easier to assign the least charitable intentions possible to FDEV, heck just look at the state of the forum right now.
True that. Cant argue with that. But i really hope that the EoL of ED is far far away*... ;)
*beside of the current state of ED:Odyssey
Why would I need evidence? It right in front of our faces mate. What more evidence do you need? Maybe I am missing something here. I don't know, but last I checked mmos work one way. The world and client side data is stored on our hard drives. The information and server side data is stored on their side. It really wouldn't be that hard for them to add an offline version with saves that is completely separate from the online version and other modes.
So when people say the galaxy is stored online really it's the galaxy data that is stored online. We already have everything we need to see everything already on our computers. So when I say they're to lazy to do it what I am really saying is they just do not want to be bothered because it's is easier for them to maintain control of their game if they keep everything online. They've already said we're keeping it strictly an mmo only. Not an mmo with an offline mode that is separate. So if evidence is required then that would be it mate. I hope I clarified myself a little better. Have a good one mate.
