From Horizons to Odyssey
Hi guys,
I was wondering if Odyssey is a start from scratch or if we get everything from horizons. I searched a little bit and found nothing related. Can you guys clarify please?

No, it'll just be add new features to your existing game when you have it, just like Horizons and Beyond did to the base game.

if pilots will be forced, one way or another(essential mats, progress, disadvantage), to play first person shooter, that day i will leave elite. this time, possible, forever. so, i wait all this, with mixed feelings.

It adds more content to the base game but I heard you can play it by itself, meaning I do not think it benefits anything directly in the main game other then like creds and ranks/rep but who knows. I love it though when those say its 'forced'. Its never forced man. You have a choice of doing it or not. That's such a low reach argument. 'Forced', lul.

If by not doing it you can't progress your gameplay, then there is no real choice, other than not playing anymore. That's why there is a concern.

You can play Elite without playing Horizons now so I can only imagine the same would go for Odyssey and the choice would be up to you .
Although by not playing Horizons you miss out on the guardian stuff which can help gameplay to a certain extent, who knows what you may be missing if you don’t update to Odyssey ?

This concern is a bit silly, though. ED is a sandbox, not a theme-park MMO. If you don't want to play Odyssey, then no one's gonna force you into it. Of course, as mentioned, it might come with additions that you'll be missing out on if you don't play it, but that's the way it is. This is far from being the first game where new features are added via an expansion and you miss out on those features if you don't play the expansion.

odyssey engineers and any materials are odyssey specific just as horizons engineers and materials were horizons specific. I would imagine odyssey materials would only apply to on foot gear so if you're not interested in that aspect, you don't need to worry about it.

Yes, the guardian stuff can help. But it's not a progression stopper. I still can do the same things in my base game, with or without it.

What I am talking about is, for example, without getting that reactor core piece on foot I wouldn't be able to buy a passenger ship. This is an example of a forced gameplay.

I don't believe this will ever happen and I don't see why they would make it like so. Not that developers haven't locked existing content behind expansions before (was it Destiny 2 that did it?), but I don't see why Frontier would go out of their way to do something like *that.*

But in all honesty, I don't see how not being able to buy a passanger ship halts progress. ED is a sandbox game. You set your own goals, so if you want something that's only available in Odyssey (much like guardian upgrades are only available via Horizons), then you're obviously gonna have to play it to get what you want. But if you're not interested in it, then I don't understand how what it offers is a problem.

Cuz there's also this. The expansion is all about *walking,* to the point where they said you have the option to never pilot a ship if you don't want to. I really don't see them locking *anything* that's in the base game behind Odyssey.

if pilot`s progress is at disadvantage for not running around with pew pew in hands, it is forced gameplay of first person shooter. i do NOT want to play fps game in any shape or form. if this puts me in disadvantage or even stop from progress in space sim game i played before with success, then it is nothing else than forced way to play game as someone else dictates me. it is very, very simple.

really??? then why stop on passenger ships? maybe inability to use transport or fighter ships also will not halt progress?
amazing nonsense.

I hear you. I'm uninterested in FPS and play ED for the spaceship simulator fun. As long as I can continue doing that - and Odyssey offers some additional content to that part of the game, I'm all for it.

What's nonsense to me is ignoring the rest of my comment, particular the part where I mention that ED is a sandbox.

If you only purchase haulers or fighters *after* you get a ship mostly suited for tourism (cuz in reality, any ship can house passanger cabins depending on the grade of the cabin you want to use), then you're doing that to yourself.

But the point, which you completely ignored cuz then you wouldn't have a chance to make such a response, is that it's actually nonsensical to think that they would lock base game content behind the new expansion, especially if it comes to unlocking ships.

After all...

So, uh... Why are people all of a sudden thinking that they'll be forced into playing Odyssey?

it's an just expansion to the game. Not sure why you thought it would take your stuff away?
