finding meta-alloy via eddb
I'm playing Horizons, searching for meta-alloy with eddb. Shows in my current system as available at Battuta Landing but that is not available on the list of ports or surface stations.

Not sure how to find this station - any help?

Try Maia base in the Pleiades, they sell some.

Have you scanned the planet? Sometimes surface ports don't show up until you've gotten near to the planet or gotten in a basic scan of the planet it's supposed to be on.

You're looking at the stations demanding Exo-alloys, not the ones supplying it.

If you include fleet carriers you will find a lot of them selling Exo Alloys at Deciat, albeit at a big markup.

I had bought one there enroute to Deciat, but died to rando pirate npc. Was trying to avoid a trip back, so I checked eddb. (NB: I did verify that I am on the buy screen, not demand).

Are there any limits on access to fleet carriers, or can anybody just land and buy there?

That depends on the owner´s setting, you can see it in the details window, in the Navigation screen.
EDDB and Inara trade info about carriers is unreliable though, look when it was last updated before you make the trip.

Darnielle's Progress in Maia is the very old school place to go pick your meta-alloys. Then there's many carriers that make their business selling them, but you'll usually have to pay maximum price. At least you don't have to go far. They often hang out in Deciat. The most pro way is to go harvest them by yourself. Common way is to go to the barnacles, but I recommend Thargoid bases instead. They are less likely to be picked clean. Just use Civilization - Thargoids filter on your galaxy map and then look around Pleiades.

IMO the trip to the Pleiades is an awesome experience. You get to peek outside the bubble and can also make a lot of credits with the exploration data.

Yeah, they added it as a commodity in Maia after the original source of Meta Alloys was removed so commanders had a source to unlock the engineer. For a long time this was the only way to get Meta Alloys.

The reason that landing is not listed is that the planet is over 400,000LS from the star and you probably didn't take the time to buy the exploration data before going there or perform an FSS once you got there so you can't see the planet.

two questions about this:

-what do you mean "buy exploration data"? I thought exploration data was just something sold to make money.
-when I enter a new system, I do the honk scan and then decide which planets to DSS. Does doing that first scan not show all planets?

From Galaxy Map, click on system and if you haven't discovered it yet, sometimes you can buy "exploration data".

Yes, you honk, BUT you still need to "Discover" all planetary bodies, usually with FSS (is your transactions panel still showing some planets as "undiscovered"? if so, then you either fly close to the body, or use FSS to discover them)
