Looking for a light combat ship
Got familiar with my Cobra MK3, I think I'll be outfitting it for cargo delivery and mining.

I want a separate highly maneuverable ship that can pack a punch, nothing too expensive tho. Got 10 mil, obviously gonna keep earning but is there anything I can eye in the current circumstances? Was thinking about DB Scout.

Also hardpoint and other module outfit recommendations appreciated

I would say the vulture but iirc it comes to more than 10 mil, if you can earn a little more it's the best small combat ship in the game with 2 large hardpoints. You can go 2 plasma accelerators (heat is a problem unless you can use engineers) or a more sensible fixed beam and gimballed multicannon loadout. Or fixed frag cannons to nuke enemies at point blank range. 2 undersized railguns on such a tanky and manouverable platform are ok too.

You could get a viper for 10 mil but it's basically a more manouverable, less versatile cobra, and I don't like small hardpoints, with the engineered npcs in large ships that you end up fighting.

The imperial courier is an alternative to the vulture but is rank locked

I prefer Vulture for great maneuverability (second most agile ship in the game). And 2 large hardpoints makes you do nice damage and practice to switch pimps in combat rapidly.

Only one name when it comes to Small Spaceframe Combat ships, and that's the Vulture. Everything else is a gimmick that relies on meta tactics like Railsnipes to be viable.

It won't be cheap but IMO you can't go wrong with the Krait Mk2, awesome ship. Flexible, fast (you can endlessly boost if you want to) and it can house a fighterbay. What's there not to like? ;)
Imperial Courier is a very fun combat ship. Mine has 2 plasma accelerators and a railgun. But it needs some engineering to really shine. And it requires some Imperial rank to be unlocked.

Imperial rank for the Courier can be unlocked in no time. Ship is very fast and had has quite strong shield generator.

Depend on ur budget, this is the list in small and medium class sorted from cheapest to most expensive. Since the title says light so large ships (aka the one cannot land in outpost) doesn't counts
Small:
Viper (MkIII)> very agile, cheap, not really pack high armor but a good combat ship early
Courier> agile, somewhat middle ground between viper and vulture with much better power management (prepare around 5M budget)
Vulture> Somewhat good choice if your budget is not too tight, but does it job really well at the price range, especially with small class. Its tanky, but agile, "made for combat" ship in small class, render it useless for most other task (prepare around 10M budget).

Medium:
Chieftain> Somewhat good stepping stone to medium class, bulky tank (around 40M budget). Arguably better option than FAS at the price point.
Krait MKII> The smuggling vessel, all-rounder, but more focused on combat instead of full all-round Python. Serves as "great launchers" aka good medium mothership to launch extra fighters. Fights well and flexible, fits many roles (although not as much as Python roles). Can't go wrong with either Krait or Python (prepare at least around 75-90M budget for either)
Fer-De-Lance> The Tip of the Spear, the bigger vulture, "made for combat" ship in medium class. The best PvP ship in medium and "arguably" the best ship in medium class for PvE bounty hunting. Probably the most agile ship in all medium class ships, it able to mount one HUGE hard point in addition to 4 medium, being one of two ship (along Mamba) to fit a HUGE hard point into medium class. The weakness as described is this ship is made for combat and pretty unsuited for anything other than combat. This ship still my favorite pirate hunting ship to date, Unengineered (prepare around 100-150M in budget).

I have a loadout for the Fer-De-Lance, unengineered, that cost 146M. It basically rocks right off the bat without engineering. With engineering it could go even way more devastating.

While i said prepare xx amount in budget, keep in mind that's NOT including the rebuy cost! Never fly without a rebuy insurance.

Thanks for the advice!

Viper sounds like a good affordable option that I can upgrade straight away, but on the other hand I could keep upgrading my Cobra.

Should I just stick to Cobra and earn a bit more before I can get and immediately outfit a Vulture?

Just switch, I rather say to keep only one ship till you reach the end of medium class. Put more into upgrades and rebuy cost.
