mining vs trading
I have been trying deep core mining and its PITA, cant seem to locate fissure asteroids to save my life and the one i did find in a painite belt held crap.

Meanwhile I can clear 1million in profit every 15 minutes trading. Is mining just a pure crap shoot

Painite mining(classic laser mining) can bring you 400mil/hour...you need right place...right ship.....right engineering and a good map...

Core mining has been severe nefred...wont recommend it...

Trading is far less credit earning profession

Why are you only looking for fissures?
Agony_Aunt Oct 31, 2020 @ 11:27am
Umm.. not sure, but AFAIK, the pulse wave scanner is still broken for most people.

Also Jankules, you might want to explain the map part. Its not something that is widely known about.

good to know was an hour looking for some roid but damn the scanner shows nothing.

oO 400mil/h
Explain, cuz with a cutter, its hard to make 100mil/h so.... something i do wrong maybe.

From watching some youtube videos when it comes to earning credits I get the impression that mining is over powered and everything else needs a buff

I beleive he is talking about making a map of which roids contain what. If you take advantage of that you can relog and head directly for the high paying roids.

The roids themselves change shape, but their contents remain.

At least it used to work.... not sure it still does.

They removed the content respawn.

well found a decent patch now. is the only way to scan mineral content is with limpets?

Yes. You can mine blind but that is pretty ineffecient.

You can shoot at an asteroid until it drops a first chunk. Then you can see the asteroid's content by targeting that chunk.

Using a Mining Lance special Power Play weapon may help here, as it can shoot at asteroids from like 2km away, so you don't need to approach the asteroid very close.

Keep in mind that by using a prospector limpet you double the number of chunks produced by an asteroid.

ah, I would of swore there used to be a mineral scnanner. But didnt know that about the limber prospector. Tahnks

Well, that's not fully true about that trading. While you may be able to do this now it has taken you a while before your reputation with the faction(s) was good enough for them to offer you such missions. Otherwise you'd be looking at missions which only pay 200 - 300k at best.

If a random faction gives you a mission for 1 - 2 million you can bet that there's a snake in the grass, like a supply run to Hutton Orbital for example. Sure you get 1 - 2 million, but it won't earned in 5 or 10 minutes or so. In order to get the better missions you need to build up reputation.

Don't get me wrong here though, you're absolutely right that in the longer run this really becomes more and more profitable. I've been playing for a long time around one specific system and also did tons of missions. Mostly delivery but also courier, data gathering, assassination, etc. When I do cargo missions I also like to 'stack'. So I grab every mission I want, even if I don't have the cargo space for it. When I'm at my destination I do the same thing: look for more profitable missions. So sometimes I go back to the pickup point with a small detour in order to earn more. (just keep in mind not to overdo it otherwise you'll be gone for hours ;)).

But as a result my reputation also increased with many factions who have a presence around my home system. So stacking those missions also got a whole lot more profitable.

These days I often come across missions where I bring an x amount of cargo to station A and then find another mission to haul an x amount of cargo back to my home station. Best missions are those which ask me to move 3 - 5 pieces of commodity for 1 - 3 million credits. They can be easily combined with other missions (like passenger runs).

But....

Mining can definitely be profitable too. Like the others mentioned: you need to pick the right spot, find the right stations to sell to and of course concentrate on the right commodities.

Personally I'm not a big fan of mining and don't do it often. Probably because I often struggle with finding the right places and such (but then again: I am lazy and prefer to stay in my home system). But it gets a bit annoying when you enter a void opal or low temperature diamonds hotspot and then find plenty of stuff except for any of those specific items. Makes you wonder why they call it a hotspot to begin with, considering that I had the same amount of luck when mining in a random spot within a planetary ring (ended up with 2 - 3 CTD's).

(I'm well aware that overlapping spots are what people go for).

But it can definitely be profitable. One session I ended with pretty much nothing, barely enough to cover my fuel costs. But the other time I actually made a few million pretty quickly by getting hold of the right items (not sure from mind what I got, either void opals or... something else). Not a huge profit, but definitely something to make it worth my while!

Keep in mind though that I don't do big mining operations. I have my ASP-X set up for laser mining and so I don't exactly have a huge cargo hold available, but it's enough for what I want to do. I basically find a hotspot and combine my activities between using prospect limpets and random mining (with plenty of materials in my ignore list).

Still... I am considering to buy a ship specifically dedicated to mining (so both laser & blast mining) but I haven't made up my mind about that. First things on my todo list as to fully equip & set up my Beluga (lots of fun & credits to be made with passenger runs!) and I also want to eventually get my hands on the Corvette. Already got the rank, now to get the ship ;)

That wholly depends on whether he does normal or mission trading.

There are some extremely lucrative trade loops out there, but it is something one will have to find.
(location & experience goes a long way here =)
