Is there a way to turn off side panels when you look at them?

I would like to disable the side panels popping up every time I turn my head. Is there a way so that they only pop up when you hit the key to activate them, or is the ctrl+alt+g method really the only way around this? As a miner/explorer I like to look around. The screens even temporarily disable my steering when I am in the middle of a turn.

YES.. check your settings, you can change behavior there from popping up, taking control or ignoring your movement entirely.

i have on hotas a buttom if useing VR that i can hit the altarnate key on joystick and causes them to poof when i turn head but can hold it to brimg it up and use it as thats also my hold and click the d pad to left right down so on button

Finally I found it!! Thank you! Was in controls under mod switches. Been looking all over for that setting. The way they designed the options layout is so confusing for me.
