(tip) Don't solely rely on KGB-FOAM, instead...
Hi gang!

What an amazing game! There, had to say it.

At the time of writing I'm docked in the Rohini system, on the road to Wrestlemania, errrr, I meant: Colonia! Approx. 7k ly out of the bubble and it seems I'm a 3rd of the way; only 14k ly more to go :-)

When doing such long trips many commanders would suggest that you change the filtering on your galaxy map so that it only shows system types of KGBFOAM; in other words: only showing systems which have a scoopable star. Then you apply the filter to your route and after that you normally won't enter any non-scoopable systems.

My suggestion? Don't!

See, this screenshot was taken on a system with a type L star, non scoopable but... just look at this scenery! You'd be missing out on some really potentially good stuff.

And funnily enough, not all "non-scoopable systems" are actually non-scoopable! ;) I've been in systems where there was another star orbiting the main star, at a ridiculous close distance too (no more than 200 - 250Ls). And... it was scoopable, while the main star wasn't. How's that for a "troll system", eh? ;)

Of course I've also experienced the other way around: getting "sandwiched" between the main (scoopable) star and a red dwarf, immediately causing my ship to almost overheat.

Anyway....

Don't blindly rely on KGBFOAM, if you do you're missing out on some potentionally good stuff. I've been through many of those systems and scored dozens of "First discovered"'s for example.

Instead... as soon as your fuel is getting lower (my threshold is approx. 30 - 40%) you should open your galaxy map and check if the route mentions something about a "fuel star". If it does, and the line of your route is solid up to that system then you're safe.

If it doesn't then you probably get to see the solid line end at a system and from there it goes jagged. That's your point of "no return". So instead of blindly following the route now would be a good time to check systems close to you and find a KGBFOAM'er, now is a good time to use that system filter.

Find a scoopable star, target it (don't set a route), hop over and fill your tanks. Then open the galaxy map again and the system should now re-calculate your route. Easy.

I just went through approx. 190 jumps; went from Tilian straight to Rohini while using this method of keeping taps on my fuel and checking my route. I had to deviate a few times because the nav computer insisted to keep sending me through non-scoopable systems until I ran out, but with a few manual jumps that was easily avoided.

Figured I'd share.... sure, you need to keep your concentration up a bit, but... I think it'll be worth it. I'm not even halfway there and I already saw some really cool systems along the way, systems which you'd otherwise have skipped.

Alas... stay safe out there Commanders!

another reason is there is more chance they will be undiscovered!

I just turn the KGBFOAM filter on when I'm getting low on fuel while I'm out exploring. Which basically never happens with economical routes and a 7A fuel scoop...

However if I'm travelling somewhere instead of exploring, then I stick to the filter. Need to skim some fuel every jump, or refuel every 3 or 4 jumps; instead of plodding across a 1000LY without even thinking about fuel...

This is why people don't do this.

I use KGBFOAM and the bottom 3 filters so I can get the other cool types of stars and black holes. Always good to include them so you can get jet cone boosts.

But honestly the logic in this thread is non existent. The terrain of the planets does not have much to do with the star type. You can find those types of planets in any system.

The only thing KGBFOAM will do is if you are looking for say Raxxla you might not find it since it it is not guaranteed to be in a KGBFOAM system. We know it has an orange-star but there are orange stars that are non scoopable.

Neutron stars systems have also high chance of ELWs,paradoxal but true.,and very high percent of scoopable secondary star

Who said it had an orange star?
