If you're using Inara's commodities tool, make sure you're on Import (stuff station is buying) price, not Export (stuff station is selling) price.
Check last update time on Inara. If its 3 days old, its useless. 8 hours or less is most reliable.
Painite prices were nerfed to the ground, Platinum is more stable and it can be mined very, very fast.
I personally wouldn't even be happy making 200k. Waste of time. I did a run yesterday of Musgravite 625k each.. about 140M.
200K isn't awful, if its a carrier you can sell to and get back to mining without even jumping. I sell Platinum at 250K to a carrier with zero jumps rather than selling to a station at 258K and 6 jumps.
Musgravite though, I've seen upwards of 930K or higher at outposts. had a very, very good day in the Keelback a month ago :P
I partially agree, with the difference that you can mine platinum way, way faster, and cores are more dependent of RNGeeezus.
If I have just 30min or so of play time, I can just jump in my Clipper or Python, head to the overlap platinum, and fill up 150-190t of Platinum, Osmium, Gold in like 30min, head back to the FC and call it a day.
But, personally, I do prefer the core mining, those explosions never get old, and you can get over 700k for Musgravite fairly often:
