Until then there will be that completion bar.
Well.. of course I can't rule out the fact that I'm much too impatient here, I suppose the "rewards tier" got to me: 5 tiers of rewards and apparently I didn't even make it into the top bottom. Oh well... Maybe I'll have another go at this later this weekend. First things first though :)
Thanks again!
And instead of making this only a CG, they could implement this as an ongoing algorithm where stations can either grow big or shrink depending on support from trade or missions activities or even pirate attacks taking place there. I'm sure expanding stations would be welcome but shrinking ones might not but to be fair, both must coexist to simulate a living universe to some degree.
Otherwise cut and paste would do it far quicker than needing any participation and involvement from players or NPCs.
Your personal level of participation, compared to others (top 99%, top 50%, top 10...), It's a decisive factor on how many credits you will get at the end of the CG for your participation. Keep in mind that if you stop doing your tasks, while others will keep doing it, your level will be dropping. Like now you are top 50%, and tomorrow you might be top 75%, and by the end of the CG you will drop to top 90%, if others delivered more than you did in the whole CG.
Community Goals are both: working together towards a common goal, and competing with each other on who did more towards it. They usually last for a week, or until the global goal (Tier 10) is reached. Sometime FDevs can push it to Tier 11, if the Tier 10 was reached too fast.
Slowly growing the bubble should be just a normal thing that could be a constant mission - all the time. Why not do something with more reverence like help build a new technology such as a special port that a ship can be propelled a large distance to aid in exploration - like a ship launched rail gun that links and links to become a super celestial highway of sorts? The galaxy is insanely massive - it's not like it's going to ruin gameplay.
If thats too hard then at least have the Thargoids intervene randomly in pockets of the bubble that we have to force out. I'd rather join up and fight with random CMDR's to clear a route than deliver useless cargo all day.
However, I'm not too sure about developer laziness since I don't know the limitations for the engine and well.. it's also fair to say that if you look at this from a storyline perspective then it makes full sense again. After all: doesn't a "community effort" imply something big?
I think it makes sense that a community effort would be to move as many commodities as possible, since I could well imagine that such a station upgrade would require tons of materials. More than a single freighter could haul.
Oh well... if you look at the stats (1+ gigatons of materials have already been delivered) then some players are definitely into all this!
Yups, but who knows what the future is going to bring us. And... considering the fact that there are gankers in the system as well some commanders actually seem to be taking on the role as authority patrols (according to the chat at least, I went there in solo mode). Last night I noticed a bunch who mentioned to patrol the star and station to look out for any "campers" who might be out to attack freighters.
Not sure if that was real or if they were just a bunch of gankers themselves, but the idea was pretty cool I think!
