Cartographic Data?
So I found something interesting while looking through the myriad ways to filter info in the Galaxy Map: Cartographic data - No Data Available, Data Available. Oh also, this was while in port, not out in the deep; the option is not there if you're not in a port of some kind I guess. I'm the explorer type so this interested me greatly. When I first saw it, I thought oh wow there's a way to see what systems still have something not discovered or mapped. So I went to the nearest system that showed No Data Available, honked the system and used the FSS to locate anything not discovered or mapped ... everything was discovered and mapped.

Clicking on a system in the Galaxy Map with Data Available shows that indeed I can purchase that data, so its definitely been collected and turned in to a cartographer.

On the flipside, I would imagine No Data Available in the context of cartographic data means that no one has sold their cartographic data to a cartographer to get their name included in the first discovered or first mapped part. But that wasn't the case. I checked out an entire system logged as having No Data Available, and everything was discovered and mapped. I can't think of another logical means of interpreting No Data Available.

Any ideas on this? I don't think you can map a star. You can't map an asteroid field. Did maybe someone not map a ring? Or am I just thinking about this wrong?

I haven't tried it here, but I guess that it can also mean that no data is available about the star system in your nav. computer. Like it's still undiscovered by you. But it still can already be discovered by somebody else.

Dolphin is on the mark here, it wasn't discovered by you yet.

See, your local system only cares about what you have already discovered and doesn't take into consideration what others have done. This is also why you'll come across "unexplored" planets within a system even though they may already been discovered and mapped by others.

Alright, I hated to suspect that answer but only really because I was hoping there was a way to find unmapped areas rather than just shooting at a dartboard blindfolded.

You could try this as well: https://edtools.cc/

Just provide your starting system and voila... It may help a bit...
