They are both different.
I'm liking how the mamba feels.
That's what makes FDL great against everything, so really a pointless argument.
I still prefer the mamba for PvE simpyl due to its huge being atop the ship not below like the FDLs.
To be fair, in PvE they perform pretty simular and the agility difference is not as big with DD5. Noticeable, but not as bad.
Absolutely awful. They have an extremely short jump-range, horrific fuel milage, virtually no cargo capacity and all and can only carry four passengers.
They're a pure combat ship.
Mamba is exactly the same as FDL except for lower shields and armor, worse maneuverability, and slightly changed hardpoints (2 large, 2 small instead of 4 mediums).
Both Mamba and FDL are built for combat. Mamba is better for fighting bigger ships because 2 large hardpoints provide better penetration against large ship armor. But it is significantly worse for figthing smaller ships as it cannot turn effectively. And if you put turreted weapons then you significantly lose dps.
FDL is an all-round combat ship which is good for fighting just any ship. Plus the speed difference between these two ships are negligible if you are not pvping. In pve (conflict zones, bounty hunting etc) max boost speed over 500 is usually enough to escape from just anything if things go bad. My FDL boost speed is around 515 (and I still have engineering to do). Majority of the AI ships does not have engineered thrusters.
Both of them have bad jump range (around 22 light years only when engineered to the max), does not have enough internal compartments to carry a good amount of cargo (for trade missions). They can carry enough passengers to profit but 22 light years is really bad for those missions as well.
But if you force it they can be good for short range trading... Passenger missions require to travel around 200-300 light years. For which I would go for Diamondback Explorer which can top between 50-60 light years jump range with enough passenger space (if you dont put a shield to the ship). DBE is the cheapest solution to passenger missions. You can take 5 to 9 million credits missions and do them in less than 30 minutes with a DBE. ASP Explorer, Orca and Liner ships are more expensive ones.
Mamba lacks the agility, good for straight line boost, the 2 large hardpoints are far apart making fixed non optimal, similar to the clipper.
