You have to use the FSS to scan for it.

errr it said nothing about a FSS scanner - do I need to add that to my ship then ?

But then what do i scan as I have no idea of the new location ?

Every ship has an FSS. Go into your keybinds and bind keys to control the FSS. It's it's own little mini-game

Most, if not all of the time they don't show up unless you re-engage supercruise.

I thought it told you what planet it was on/near and then once you got close it would show up. If it's on a planet's surface I'm not sure if it would even show up on the FSS. Maybe after you wait for the full scan of all the surface nav targets.

It might only tell you where to search in either the Comms message about it or in the mission details? I'm not completely sure, it's been a couple weeks since I did one.

Scanning the Nav Beacon already reveals everything in this star system. No extra FSS scanning is needed.

You can check your mission status on the left screen, 2nd tab. It will be updated with the planet, around which the mission objective Signal Sources will appear in supercruise. The planet should also have a little mark in the list of astronomical objects (left screen, 1st tab).

Fly to that planet and at some point your will see the mission objective USS in supercruise. Drop out of supercruise into it, and you will see one/several black boxes among some other stuff in your contacts list (left screen, 3rd tab). Be careful while scooping them - they are fragile and can be destroyed if hit. But don't worry. You can always get back into the supercruise and new mission objectives will appear, until you have collected as many as needed by your mission.

Another warning: pirate ships often drop in right when you are about to scoop the black box. In this case don't hang around, try to scoop the box and go back to the supercruise as soon as possible. They will shoot at your ship pretty badly.

1) Go to system and fly to nav beacon and scan it
2) Read message : target body etc
3) Check system for blue marking about mission target (left menu)
4) Fly to target body and when in range less than 1000ls check system again, and find the blue mission target.

Sorry still having issue I am flying to the moon still 16k ly away and I get a blue message top right saying "disc mission related signal source" but then that goes away very quick but i get nothing else no other marker - when i get to the moon nothing i fly around and nothing ? i then check my Nav and the blue location is back to the start

This is what i get so far:- I am at LFT174 - on m Nave in Blue line go to LFT 174-b i as soon as i go there I get a message top right in blue saying "disc mission related signal source" i look on my nave and now LFT174 now has the blue line - do i go back ? as i have tried that as well but get no more info and never see anything no more message nothing on my scope

Did you scan the nav beacon at the beginning of the system, near the star?
Did you read the message about which target body (planet/moon) to go to?

Well what does your transaction panel say? It's in the lower left panel (press 1).

Since it says scan required you may need to bring out the FSS. Look for signal sources on the far left of the spectrum IIRC.

Once you find it you can target it directly from the FSS and fly to it like any signal source.

Guess your best bet is the FSS.

It seems like they changed these missions a bit after introducing the new exploration tools. It used to be like darkflemish describes.
